    Bhel Puri is a popular street food that is relished by many. Pori also known as puffed rice is one of the main ingredients in making bhel puri. Learn to make Bhel Puri at home with step by step pictures.

    I am really not a big fan of bhel puri but love it just for the crunch of sev and pori. I like bhel puri served with egg scramble that is popular here in Coimbatore. Bhel puri is basically a mix of many ingredients.

    About Bhel Puri

    Bhel Puri is a tasty snack made using puffed rice, papdi or puri, chat chutneys, spice powders, raw onion, tomato, sev and coriander leaves. The ingredients list, sounds and looks long but it is easy to prepare at home.

    Once the ingredients are ready, bhel puri is very easy to put together. This is perfect to serve for parties and get together. Bhel Puri is one among the popular street food chats in Mumbai. Nowadays it has gained popularity in South India too.

    Bhel Puri Ingredients

    • Pori – Pori also known as puffed rice is one of the main ingredients for bhel puri.
    • Papdi – Readymade papdi is available in stores, you can buy them or make papdis at home. You can replace it with puri too.
    • Vegetables – Boiled potato, grated carrots are used.
    • Sev – Add bhujiya / sev for garnishing for crunch.
    • Onion – Adding raw onion as garnish gives a nice taste.
    • Coriander leaves – Add chopped coriander leaves for garnish
    • Chat Chutneys – Green chutney and sweet chutney is added.
    • Spice powders – Red chili powder, chat masala powders are added.
    • Lemon juice – Lemon juice adds a tangy taste.

    How to make Bhel Puri Step by Step

    1.Take a wide bowl for easy mixing. Make all the ingredients ready.First take green chutney, dates chutney, red chilli powder, chat masala powder and lemon juice. Then add chopped onion and tomato. Then add carrot and mashed boiled potatoes. Add puffed rice.

    2.Give a quick mix then add papdi, sev and finally garnish with coriander leaves and mix well. Serve immediately.

    If you like you can add more sev and puffed rice as garnish before serving and enjoy your homemade bhel puri.

    Expert Tips

    • Once the ingredients are mixed serve immediately else puffed rice will become soft. But it tastes good that way too, it just our preference of eating whether crisp or soggy.
    • You can also add chopped raw mango for the extra tanginess.
    • The ingredients measures are just for reference, you can + or – according to taste and liking.

    Serving and Storage

    You can make the papdi or puri, chutneys, sev ready. On the day of serving cook potato, chop onion, tomato, coriander leaves get ready with spice powders and finally assemble the chat and serve immediately.

    Ingredients

    • 1 and 1/2 cups puffed rice / pori
    • 1/2 cup sev
    • 8 papdi roughly broken
    • 1/4 cup carrot grated
    • 1 small sized potato boiled & mashed
    • 1 onion finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon green chutney
    • 1 tablespoon sweet chutney
    • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves finely chopped
    • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
    • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon chat masala powder

      For bhel, I used ready made dates chutney but you can make it at home too.Check the ingredients list for the chat chutneys recipes.
