Crackle Chocolate is a simple dessert made using melted cooking chocolate and rice krispies. It sets into small crunchy bites that feels rich and light at the same time. The texture is what makes it special, smooth chocolate outside and tiny crisp inside. It is usually made for small celebrations, kids parties, or when you want quick homemade dessert.

This is not a complicated dessert at all. You do not need oven or fancy tools for this recipe. Just melting, mixing and setting is enough for making it. This recipe has sweet, chocolaty taste and slightly crunchy texture which make it little different from regular plain chocolates. It is quick to make but still feel special when you serve it.

    About Crackle Chocolate

Crackle Chocolate is no bake treat made with melted chocolate and crispy rice cereal. The mixture are poured into moulds and then chilled until it become firm. Once set, it turns into small bite sized chocolates with a light crunch inside. It looks very simple but tastes very good.

This recipe is quite popular in many homes because it needs only two main ingredients. The texture is smooth and glossy on outside while inside you get tiny crisp bites from rice krispies. That contrast makes every bite more interesting to eat. It is sweet but not too heavy like some rich desserts.

You can also make small variations in this recipe easily. Some people add chopped nuts for extra crunch and flavor. Few people add little butter to make it more soft in texture. You can even use white chocolate instead of regular cooking chocolate. Each variation gives slightly different taste but base idea stays same.

I usually make this when I want something quick for kids at home. It hardly takes much effort and always turns out nice for me. It is one of those sweets which never fails even if you are new to baking.

    Crackle Chocolate Ingredients

    • Cooking chocolate - I used for milk chocolate, You can just use dark chocolate or white chocolate according to your preference.
    • Rice krispies - I just added for crunch and light texture inside. It gives that crackle feel when you bite the chocolate. You can use any crispy rice cereal if rice krispies is not available for you.

    Expert Tips

    • Melting Chocolate - I usually melt chocolate using double boiler method so it does not burns fast. I make sure water do not touch the bowl, otherwise chocolate become thick and lumpy.
    • Do Not Overheat - I switch off the heat once chocolate melt fully. If I overheat it, it become grainy and texture will not be smooth.
    • Mix Gently - I mix gently and quickly after adding rice krispies so it coat evenly. If I mix too much, cereal may loose its crunch and becomes soft.
    • Filling the Moulds - I use spoon to fill the moulds and tap lightly to remove air bubbles. I also prefer silicone moulds as it are easier to remove later.
    • Chilling Time - I keep it in refrigerator for atleast one hour for proper setting. If I remove it early, it may breaks while taking out from moulds.

    Serving and Storage

Serve Crackle Chocolate as small bite size treats after meals or during tea time at home. This goes well with warm milk or even coffee. Kids enjoy it a lot as evening snack. Store leftover chocolates in an airtight container inside refrigerator. They stays good for about one week if stored properly.

    FAQS

    1.Can I use compound chocolate?

Yes, you can use compound chocolate as it melts easily and sets firm, but taste may be slightly different.

2.Can I just add in nuts?

Yes, you can just add any nuts or almonds or cashews for extra crunch and nutty flavor in the chocolate. It give nice texture also.

    3.Do I need chocolate moulds?

No, you can spread it in a tray and cut into squares after it set fully.

4.Can I make this in advance?

Yes, you can make it one or two days before. Store in fridge and take out few minutes before serving time.

5.Why is my chocolate not shiny?

It may be overheated or little water entered while melting. Always melt slowly and keep bowl fully dry.

Hi Sharmi, I love Crackle chocolate and wish to make this ! Just wanted to check with you if we could use 1 cup of chocolate chips in place of the cooking chocolate ? Not sure if cooking chocolate is the same as the chocolate bars we eat ?
Please clarify. Also, could I use the ice cube tray as mould as I can't think of anything else. 🙂 Thanks !!
