This is different from regular vegetable sandwiches because the filling is thick and rich and also the bread is not toasted. The cream cheese holds everything together and gives smooth texture. About Cream Cheese Sandwich
Cream Cheese Sandwich is a no cook recipe which can be prepared within few minutes if all the ingredients are ready. The base is soft bread slices and the filling is made by mixing cream cheese along with finely chopped vegetables and spices together. You can even toast the sandwich slightly if you prefer little crisp outside layer.
The filling texture is creamy and little crunchy at the same time which makes it enjoyable to eat for both kids and adults. This type of sandwich is not very traditional but it is very popular in many homes because of its ease and simple taste. Spreading butter in between avoids the bread from turning soggy.
Vegetables like onion, capsicum gives crunch and taste to the filling. Carrot and corn gives little sweetness in between and balances the flavors without making it too strong. The herbs and pepper gives mild spice and good aroma.
You can also try variations in this recipe according to your liking, you can add grated carrot or finely chopped cucumber for extra freshness and color. This sandwich is endlessly versatile, and also the filling can be used for rolls and wraps too.
I usually make this when I have leftover cream cheese in fridge. Sometimes I prepare the filling little before and assemble the sandwich just before serving time. Both mittu and gugu are fond of this sandwich.

Cream Cheese Sandwich Ingredients
- Bread Slices - I used regular white bread for this sandwich. You can use brown bread or multigrain bread also.
- Cream Cheese - I used homemade cream cheese for the filling and it gives creamy and rich taste to the sandwich. It helps to bind all the vegetables together.
- Onion - I chopped it finely for slight crunch and flavour inside the filling. It adds freshness and little bite.
- Capsicum - I added this for color and light crunch in the sandwich. I have used red and green capsicum.
- Corn - I have used boiled corn for mild sweetness and soft bite in between. It just balances the spice and gives texture to the filling.
- Chili Flakes - I added for spice in the mixture. You can adjust the quantity as per your spice level.
- Pepper Powder - I added for extra flavor and gentle spice touch.. You can freshly crush pepper if you want stronger flavor.
- Mixed Herbs - I used this for extra flavor and little Italian style touch. You can skip if not available but it gives good taste.
- Butter - I spread little butter on bread slices before adding filling. It gives softness and prevents bread from becoming soggy.

Expert Tips
- Chop Vegetables - I usually chop onion and capsicum fine so that filling spreads evenly. Big pieces may tear the bread while spreading. I grate carrot and add it.
- Cream Cheese - I used homemade cream cheese, straight out from fridge so that it is thick and spreadable. It should not be too goey as it may turn the sandwich soggy.
- Spread Butter - I always spread thin layer of butter before adding filling. It keeps bread from getting soggy if kept for some time.
- Trim Edges - I trim edges, you can keep edges if you are ok with it.
- Cutting - I cut into triangles or squares. Press gently while cutting so filling does not come out from sides.
Serving and Storage
Serve this with tomato ketchup or green chutney on side. It goes well with evening tea or even with simple fruit juice. Store leftover filling in refrigerator for one day and use when needed, do not keep more than that. Do not keep assembled sandwich for long time because bread can become too soft and little soggy.
