Eggless French Toast (Sweet Version)

I've already tried Eggless French toast(SavouryVersion) here and was totally happy with the results. So here is my french toast sweet version. I luv to try anything new out of bread, and this try was totally successful. These are simple and quick to make.....but trust me they are very tasty.
Eggless French Toast (Sweet Version)

Eggless French Toast (Sweet Version) - Ingredients
  • Whole wheat bread - 3 slices (You can also use white bread)
  • Milk - 1/4 cup
  • Custard Powder - 1/2 to 1 tbsp (You can alternatively use cornflour too)
  • Vanilla essence - a drop (if using cornflour)
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Ghee/Oil - As required to toast

Eggless French Toast (Sweet Version)
Method:
Boil milk, switch off. Now combine the warm milk with custard powder, sugar in a wide bowl. Stir well till cornflour and sugar is dissolved fully.
Eggless French Toast (Sweet Version)
Heat a dosa tawa, Add ghee or oil. Dip the bread slices on both the sides in the milk , place the bread slices on the pan. Allow it to get toasted well now turn it to other side and cook on other side. If its sticky add a little more ghee.
Eggless French Toast (Sweet Version)

Serve with topping of your choice or can be served as such. I like the toasts warm with honey Serve hot/warm! You can also sprinkle little cinnamon powder as topping when its still warm and enjoy your toasts!

Eggless French Toast (Sweet Version)

My Notes :
  • If you dont have custard powder then add cornflour and vanilla essence which will give the same flavour.
  • While dipping the bread dont leave it for more time , just a fraction of second for each side of the bread else the bread slices would become mushy and stick to the pan.
  • Preferable use a nonstick dosa tawa so that it doesnt stick.

awesome recipe..looks so mouthwatering :)

Bharathy said...

made it now and we are loving it sharmee :)..

do u add the cornflour into hot or warm milk?..i cooled down the milk to luke warm and added the rest of the ing..the bread slice absorbed the milk so fast and i had to squeeze out LOL.. and was a bit sticky on the tawa..

the hot slices taste awesome with that flavour of vanilla and a little excess ghee which went into it..

will be making regularly for my son as a back school tea time quick snack..:)

Sharmilee! :) said...

@Bharathy : Thanks so much for trying & letting me knw! I added cornflour in warm milk only updated in recipe too....:) yeah thats what I said in my notes just to dip the slices for a second else the bread will absorb milk quickly and will become mushy....:) When u just dip and put in the ghee/oil added tawa the stickyness will be reduced.

My li'l one LOVES french toast and I keep hunting for different variation for anything she likes. Gotta give this a try and also the savory version of it.
Thanks for sharing!

Bharathy said...

ah fine.. :) My son wants to thank you as he is having slice number 7 now ;)..

thicker stale slices would fair well i suppose sharmee, than reg fresh slices..or wheat as you'd mentioned..will toast them on a non stick tawa next!

Thank You once again! :)

Sharmilee! :) said...

@Bharathy : Am really very glad that ur son liked it :) I havent tried it with white bread still.....but have tried with fresh wheat bread...u can try next time with wheat bread which makes it all the more healthy too....and non stick tawa yes wud be best!

Is cornflour the same as cornstarch in this case?

Harini said...

Wow looks so delicious.. I love french toast and was searching for a nice eggless recipe! this is going to be my breakfast tomorrow morning :)

Penny said...

Just wondering what the custard powder is made from. I am allergic to eggs, not just avoiding their bad qualities.

Sharmilee! :) said...

@Pennny : Custard powder is just cornflour with vanilla essence. It is purely optional for this toaste so you can very well skip it too....
