    About Cheese Sandwich Recipe

Cheese Sandwich is best for breakfast, snack, dinner or anytime. Whether the fridge is loaded or it is running out of stock, you are always sorted because you have sandwiches on the menu! When you are running late, sandwiches are your best friend because they take no time to cook and are also filling.

Cheese Sandwich is one of the recipes that is deem fit for starters to cooking. It also inculcates growing interest in cooking with experiments on the variations with or without stuffing.

I love crisp sandwiches that are made on tawa, the age old sandwich maker amma used to have. I am still searching for it but its available only in aluminium or nonstick so am still waiting to buy in steel or iron. Also I am not fond of electric sandwich makers but had to go with it just for the grill marks but then my friend Sowmya got me this lodge grill pan from the US and now this is one of the frequently used tawa these days. You can use regular dosa tawa too for grilling these sandwiches.

All you need is love and tasty Cheese Sandwich

Love is cooking & enjoying it with family, friends & relatives. I have Cheese Sandwich or one of the sandwiches on the menu along with Kesari or a sweet, Poori or Vellai Paniyaram, Strawberry Milkshake or juice for breakfast on special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, mini-parties.

Cheese for Sandwich – Which cheese to buy?

Buying cheese from stores is a nice confusion. Nice in the sense – the place where cheese is kept will be extra cool than the other area of super market & gives a nice aroma. Confusion in the sense which cheese to buy! Mozzarella Cheese or Cheddar Cheese or Cheese Slices or Cheese (plain). Lets see if we can get over this confusion or add to it.

Mozzarella cheese is whitish, cheaper, softer than Cheddar which makes Mozzarella a natural choice for us to buy. Pizza, Cheese Balls, Jacket Potatoes and most recipes are commonly made with Mozzarella. If you want a sharp taste & greater shelf life we can go for Cheddar cheese.  Sandwiches, Baked Mac & Cheese, Pasta are commonly made with Cheddar. Cheese Slices are made for convenience to use in sandwich & cubed ones for lesser quantity & easiness to grate.  However bear in mind any of these cheese can be used for all the recipes.

Do I need Sandwich Maker for Grilled Cheese Sandwich?

    Absolutely no!

Grilling is a direct flame or significant radiant heat form of cooking which is meant to heat quickly. We can make Grilled Cheese Sandwich on a dosa tawa as well and in OTG! However for the beautiful lines on the bread you need to get one!

Cheese Sandwich with Brown Bread or Milk Bread or Sandwich Bread or Plain Bread?

    Your choice.

I prefer Plain Bread or Wheat Bread. Milk bread may not taste best for savoury breakfast and Sandwich bread can be used too.

Cheese Sandwich or Grilled Cheese Sandwich?

Sandwich may mean eating sandwich raw without heating or cooking and hence the clarity Grilled Cheese Sandwich which 100% mean that the sandwich is cooked / grilled / roasted & served. Cheese Sandwich, however, naturally means grilled as cheese is more tastier, gooey when grilled.

    How to make Cheese Sandwich?

Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe – Oven method:

    • Preheat the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes.
    • Place the sandwiches in the middle rack of the oven.
    • Bake at 180 degrees Celsius 10-12 minutes or until the sandwiches become crusty and golden from top. Turn over in between.
    • Serve / enjoy hot!

    Ingredients

    • Bread: Any bread of your choice – Plain or Whole wheat or Sandwich and homemade or store bought!
    • Cheese: Mozzarella cheese is handy, cheaper and friendlier option than Cheddar or slices. Cheese can be grated when you have time and stored in refrigerator for later use.  Homemade Cottage Cheese, Blue, Feta, Goat, Swiss cheeses also can be used based on your taste preferences.
    • Butter: Homemade Butter or store bought butter that cooks bread easier & crispier.
    • Spices: Again your choice – Chilli flakes, oregano & dried herbs are my favourites.
