    About Sukku Milagu Paal

Sukku Milagu Paal is a traditional South Indian drink. You can prepare Sukku Milagu Paal in very less time with basic ingredients, both ingredients are known for their medicinal value. This recipe is easy and does not need any special method. It is like simple herbal milk prepared at home.

This recipe is mostly prepared during cold season or when someone feels feverish. The drink is boiled well so that flavors blend properly. Cane sugar is added to balance the spice. Some people dilute milk with little water if giving for children. This recipe can be adjusted on how strong you want the spice taste.

The taste of this Sukku Milagu Paal is slightly spicy and sweet together. Pepper gives sharp heat and dry ginger gives strong warmth. You can also add pinch of turmeric if needed. This recipe does not need straining if powders are fine, but straining makes it smooth. It should be served hot for better effect.

I usually prepare this when anyone at home catches cold. My family prefers this at night before bed. It gives warm feeling in throat and chest.

    Sukku Milagu Paal Ingredients

    • Milk - I have used regular full cream milk for this recipe. Milk form the base of the drink and give smooth taste, you can dilute it with little water if required.
    • Cane sugar - I added it for sweetness and to balance the spice. You can replace it with palm sugar or regular sugar as per the availability.
    • Dry ginger powder - I just added this for warmth and medicinal value. Make sure it is fresh and not very old for getting better flavor.
    • Pepper powder - I add it to give spicy taste to the drink. You can adjust the quantity on how strong you prefer it.

    Expert Tips

    • Boiling - I boil the milk in low flame so it does not overflow. Slow boiling helps flavors so mix well.
    • Taste - I just add dry ginger and pepper only after milk comes to boil. This prevents raw taste in drink.
    • Adjust sweetness - I taste and then add sugar accordingly. Too much sugar may reduce the spicy effect.
    • Dilute if needed - If serving for someone with severe cold, you can dilute milk with little water. This makes it lighter and easier to drink.
    • Serve hot always - It should be served hot. Warm drink gives better comfort for throat.

    Serving and Storage

Serve Sukku Milagu Paal hot immediately after preparation. This drink is best consumed fresh. Do not store for long hours because taste may change. If needed you can reheat once before serving. Always stir well before drinking.
