I make homemade pizza sauce on and off but these all of us love this chunky pizza sauce which I make at home so I plan a bit and make pizza sauce the previous day and store it.I have been asked by friends and readers to post homemade pizza sauce recipe and here is the easy recipe that I make often.
This sauce can be used for 3 medium sized pizzas.

Pizza sauce recipe
Ingredients
- 4 nos tomatoes medium sized
- 1.5 tbsp crushed / chopped garlic
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp chilli flakes
- 1/2 tsp dried mixed herbs
- 1/2 tsp sugar (optional)
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Chop tomatoes roughly,transfer to mixer jar and make a puree,few chunky pieces here and there is ok.
- Heat oil in a pan,add crushed garlic,saute and cook for 2mins.
- Then add tomato puree,mix well and let it cook in low flame.
- Once the raw smell leaves and the color changes to deep red, add chilli flakes and mixed herbs.
- Cook in simmer for 5mins.
- Add salt and sugar,cook for few more mins until oil seperates. You can see oil collecting at the edges,this is the right stage.Switch off.
Notes
- You can replace chilli flakes with red chilli paste.
- You can skip sugar if you want a spicy pizza sauce.
- This can be used for pasta too.
- You can even add fresh basil leaves, if you get it.
- If you want a smooth paste, blanch the tomatoes then puree it.Also use garlic paste.
- This sauce keeps well at least for 7 to 10 days in fridge, use clean dry spoon while using.The oil should float on top which will increase the shelf life so do not compromise on oil if you are planning to store.

How to make homemade pizza sauce recipe:
- Separate garlic pearls from pod then remove the skin from them.You can either chop it finely or crush it.I used my garlic press.Collect crushed garlic in a bowl and set aside.I used just 1.5tbsp from this.
- Chop tomatoes roughly,transfer to mixer jar and make a puree,few chunky pieces here and there is ok.

- Then add tomato puree,mix well and let it cook in low flame.
- Once the raw smell leaves and the color changes to deep red, add chilli flakes and mixed herbs.
- Cook in simmer for 5 mins.
- Add salt and sugar,cook for few more mins until oil seperates. You can see oil collecting at the edges,this is the right stage.Switch off.
Cool down completely then store in a clean bottle.
Spread on pizza or toasted bread and enjoy.This goes well even with rotis, do try and see.
