This pan pizza has a soft inside with crispy edges, though it doesn't give the same texture as pizza made with oven, am sure you will not complain much.Mittu and hubby loved it so much and they didn't find much difference at all.It was only after I revealed they knew that the pizza was made without oven, so its a win win right?!
This pizza has soft texture and crisp at the bottom. The topping has sautéed vegetables, sauce, melted cheese and it gives a balanced taste. It has a masala flavour and it makes it different from regular pizza. It tastes more like homemade style. It is good for sharing with family.
There are many variations you can try with this recipe and you can change based on your liking. You can use different vegetables like mushroom, corn or paneer. You can also adjust spice level or add more cheese and this recipe can be changed easily. It is flexible and easy to try.
I usually make this for weekend dinner or sometimes when guests come home. It is simple to prepare and it feels special when served hot. I used my lodge iron skillet, you can even use dosa tawa but preferable use iron skillet or tawa to get crispy base and edges.I used homemade pizza sauce so the flavour was just awesome.

Tawa Pizza Ingredients
- Wheat flour - I used wheat flour for this recipe which gives a soft base. You can use plain flour fully for softer texture.
- White flour - white flour is added along with wheat flour to make the base lighter. You can skip and use one flour alone.
- Baking powder - baking powder helps the dough to rise slightly and gives soft texture.
- Baking soda - baking soda is added in small amount to make the base soft and light.
- Sugar - sugar helps in slight fermentation and gives mild taste to the dough.
- Oil - oil is added in the dough which makes it soft and easy to roll.
- Curd - curd is used for softness and slight tangy taste. It also helps in fermentation.
- Salt - salt is added for taste and balance.
- Water - water is used to knead the dough to soft consistency.
- Capsicum - capsicum is used for topping and it gives little crunch and flavour to the pizza. It mixes well with other vegetables and adds good texture.
- Onion - onion adds mild sweetness and texture to the topping and it becomes soft when cooked. It also helps in giving base flavour.
- Baby corn - baby corn gives a nice bite and little sweetness in the pizza. I have sautéed it before adding so it cook properly and taste better.
- Oregano - oregano gives a mild herb flavor to the pizza and it add simple taste. It goes well with cheese and sauce.
- Pizza sauce - pizza sauce gives main flavor and little tangy taste. You can use homemade or store bought based on what you have.
- Mozzarella cheese - I add cheese as it gives that classic pizza taste and cheesy pull texture. It also make the pizza more rich.
- Chilli flakes - chilli flakes adds little spice and you can adjust as per taste. It gives slight heat and balance the flavour.
- Oil - oil is used for cooking vegetables and brushing the base. It helps in cooking evenly and give better result.

How to make Tawa Pizza Step by Step
1.To a mixing bowl - add wheat flour, white flour and baking powder.

2.Add baking soda, sugar and oil.

3.Add curd and required salt,

4.Mix well with your finger tips for even mixing, then add water little by little and knead to form a smooth dough not too stiff not too loose just like our chapathi dough.

5.Cling wrap the dough and leave aside for at least 2-3 hours in a warm place. Meanwhile prepare the topping - Heat a teaspoon of oil, saute baby corn, capsicum and onion along with oregano and chilli flakes.

6.Saute for 2 minutes, set aside. Now the dough is risen. Get ready with all other ingredients.

7.Punch down and divide the dough into 3 balls. Take a ball flatten it thick or thin as per your liking, I made a slightly thin base. Prick with fork.

8.Brush the top with oil, heat a tawa or skillet.Carefully transfer the base to the skillet. Simmer and cook for 3 minutes.

9.Flip to other side and cook for 3 minutes. The fork pricked side is down facing now. Now spread pizza sauce, arrange the vegetables.

10.Sprinkle cheese, cook covered for 2 minutes or until cheese is goey and melts. Switch off, remove and cut into wedges and serve immediately. Repeat to finish the dough.

Serve hot!

- Kneading- I knead the dough soft like chapathi dough and it should be smooth not too stiff or too loose or it may not cook well.
- Resting dough - I keep the dough in warm place for few hours and it helps it to rise little.
- Cooking - I cook the base on low flame so it cooks evenly from inside. I just flip and cook both sides before adding toppings on it.
- Adding toppings - I add toppings after base is half cooked and it helps in better cooking. This makes vegetables and cheese cook properly.
- Cover and cook - I always cover the pan after adding cheese and it helps in melting. It helps cheese melt nicely and evenly on top.
Serving and Storage
Serve this hot for best taste, this goes well as dinner or snack for evening. Store leftover in fridge and reheat on tawa before serving. It may become little soft after storing but still tastes good.

1.Can I make this without white flour?
Yes you can use only wheat flour. Texture will be slightly dense but still good.
2.Can I add other vegetables?
Yes this recipe you can add mushrooms, corn or paneer. It works well with many toppings.
3.Can I skip curd?
Curd helps in softness but you can skip and use water. Texture may change little.
4.Why the base is not soft?

I wash it then heat it up, finally spread few drops of oil and rub with a cloth and keep it to avoid rusting.

Is it okay to make the pizza dough in the morning? I want to try it for early dinner for kids, but preparing dough after coming from office might make it too late ..

Yes you can make it in the morning let it double then clingwrap and put it in fridge this helps in avoiding further rising.Hope this helps!
