    About Chocolate Bark

Chocolate Bark is nothing but melted chocolate that is set and then broken into pieces. It's easy to share with friends and family during festive times because it is simple to make and looks colourful. The texture is smooth with a slight snap when you bite. Toppings also give nice crunch.

Layered Chocolate Bark is a last minute holiday gift that you can make. A very easy 2 layer chocolate bark with dark chocolate, white chocolate and sprinklers perfect for this holiday season!

The bottom layer is usually milk or dark compound chocolate which gives deep cocoa flavor. The top layer is white chocolate which adds sweetness and creamy taste. Together it balances well and does not feel too heavy. The layers look attractive when broken into uneven pieces.

You can just make variations in this recipe, instead of sprinklers you can add chopped nuts, rice krispies, dried fruits or even crushed candies. Some people swirl both chocolates together for marble effect. It is very flexible and you can adjust thickness based on how you like it.

I usually make this when I need last minute sweet for gifting. It sets fast and does not create big mess in the kitchen.

    Layered Chocolate Bark Ingredients

    • Dark chocolate - I used this as base layer for rich chocolate flavor. It melts smooth and sets firm after chilling. You can use milk chocolate if you like little more mild taste.
    • White chocolate - I used this for top layer to give sweet and creamy contrast, it also makes the bark look more bright. If you want you can use regular white chocolate instead.
    • Sprinklers - I added this for color and little crunch on top, makes the bark look more festive and fun. You can also add some chopped nuts or rice krispies for extra texture while biting.

    Expert Tips

    • Use Dry Bowl - I always make sure the bowl is completely dry before melting chocolate, one drop of water can spoil the texture and chocolate may seize.
    • Double Boiler - I have melted chocolate by placing bowl over simmering water. Make sure bowl does not touch water otherwise chocolate can overheat.
    • Spread Even Layer - You can use spatula to spread chocolate thin and even. If layer is too thick it will take more time to set and may not break easily.
    • Chill Between Layers - I usually chill the first layer for few minutes before adding white chocolate. If base is too soft both layers may mix together little.
    • Add Toppings - I always sprinkle toppings when chocolate is still soft. If you wait more it will not stick properly on top.

    Serving and Storage

Serve Chocolate Bark as small pieces on a plate for dessert or snack. You can pack it in small boxes or covers for gifting during holidays. Store it in airtight container in refrigerator if weather is warm. It stays good for one week when stored properly.

    FAQS

    1.Can I use dark chocolate?

Yes you can use dark chocolate if you like stronger cocoa flavor. It will taste little less sweet but still very good.

    2.Can I melt in microwave?

Yes you can melt in microwave in short intervals. Stir in between so it does not burn at bottom.

3.Why did my chocolate become thick and grainy?

This usually happens if water goes inside or if it is overheated. Make sure bowl is dry and heat is low.

4.Can I skip white chocolate layer?

Yes you can make single layer bark. Just spread one type of chocolate and add toppings on top.

5.Can I store this at room temperature?

If weather is cool you can keep at room temperature for some time. In hot climate it is better to store in fridge so it does not soften.
