    About Gulkand Milk

Gulkand milk is a traditional style drink made using rose petal preserve and milk. Gulkand is known for its cooling properties and it is used in many Indian drinks and desserts. When mixed with warm milk it gives a very unique and pleasant flavour. It is a simple recipe and needs only few ingredients.

The texture of this drink is smooth and creamy when prepared perfectly. It has a mild sweet taste with floral notes coming from gulkand and it feels good. The colour turns pinkish depending on the type of gulkand used. It feels very comforting when served warm and good during night time.

There are few variations you can try with this recipe and you can change based on your liking. You can add nuts like almonds or pista for extra richness and taste and it gives more flavour. You can also chill and serve it cold instead of hot and also add a pinch of cardamom powder for flavour.

I make this drink at night time after dinner at home. It feels light and it gives a soothing effect before sleep. It is a good option for kids who do not like plain milk and it helps them to drink easily.

    Expert Tips

    • Boiling milk - I boil the milk and simmer for few minutes to get better flavour.
    • Gulkand - I add gulkand in hot milk so it mixes well. If milk is cold it may not blend properly.
    • Sweetness - I just taste first before adding sugar. sometimes gulkand itself is enough for sweetness.
    • Serving style - I prefer serving it warm but you can also chill it and serve. Both ways it taste good.
    • Mixing well - I mix properly so gulkand blends evenly in milk. It should not settle at the bottom.
