Garlic Bread Sticks are soft, buttery and full of flavor. They have a crisp top and a soft, airy inside, which makes them so satisfying to bite into. These bread sticks are perfect for soup days or as a tea-time snack. You can also pair them with dips or serve with pasta and salad. I always feel garlic bread is one of those things that make your kitchen smell like a bakery.

The garlic butter spread gives a beautiful aroma when it bakes, and the melted cheese adds a salty crust on top. It's one of those bakes that even beginners can try without worrying too much. Just be patient with the dough rising, and the rest is easy. Once you try this recipe at home, you may not want to buy garlic bread from outside.

About Garlic Bread Sticks
Garlic Bread Sticks are inspired from the classic garlic bread that is served in many Italian-style restaurants. But instead of slices or stuffed bread, these are long, neat sticks which are fun to eat and easy to serve. They have the same buttery garlic topping and the soft cheesy crust on top. The best part is, they're not too hard to make.
The base dough is simple yeast dough made with maida, yeast, water, sugar, salt and olive oil. Once kneaded well, it is left to rise till it doubles. The garlic spread is made with butter, fresh minced garlic, salt, and some oregano. You can also add chili flakes if you like a little kick. Just a few simple steps and you get fresh homemade bread, warm and cheesy, straight from the oven.
Once the dough rises, we roll it, spread the butter mix, add cheese, and then bake till golden. The smell that fills your kitchen during baking is just too good! After cooling for a bit, it is sliced into long sticks which are perfect for dipping in soup or sauces. It's freshly baked, hot and crusty from your own oven, it's a joy on its own.
I usually make these on weekends or when we are having soup for dinner. Sometimes I even make them plain without cheese for my daughter. She likes to dip it in ketchup or sometimes just eats it as it is.

Garlic Bread Sticks Ingredients
- Garlic cloves - It is the main flavor here. I have used 3 big garlic cloves and crushed it roughly. You can also add more if you like strong garlic taste.
- Maida - I used this as the base flour for making the dough. It gives soft and fluffy bread sticks. You can also use wheat flour, but it may turn little dense and heavy.
- Instant dry yeast - It is used for rising the dough and gives airy soft texture after baking. I used fresh yeast and it worked well. Just check the pack before using, old yeast won't rise the dough properly.
- Sugar - I added a small spoon of sugar just to help the yeast get activated. It helps in fermentation so better not to skip it.
- Lukewarm water - It is used to knead the dough and mix the yeast. The water should be just warm, not hot. If it's too hot, it will kill the yeast.
- Olive oil - I have used olive oil to mix into the dough. It makes the bread soft and gives a light crust outside. You can also add any regular cooking oil if olive oil is not available.
- Mozzarella cheese - I added this for topping. It gives salty crust and cheesy flavor. You can skip this also if you want a plain bread stick, but I suggest adding little at least for taste.
- Butter - This is used for making garlic spread. I used normal salted butter. It adds nice smell and softness on top after baking.
- Oregano - It is used in the garlic spread for that pizza flavor. You can also add mixed herbs or even little chili flakes if you want it a bit spicy.

Expert Tips
• Yeast Activation - Always use lukewarm water only, not hot. If water is too hot means, the yeast will die and it won't rise at all. If too cold also, it won't activate properly.
• Dough Texture - Dough should be little sticky and soft only. Don't make it too tight like chapathi dough, then bread will become hard after baking.
• Cheese Timing - If you want that gooey cheese pull, add cheese in the last 5 mins of baking. But for a crispy top and salty crust, add cheese before baking fully.
• Rolling & Cutting - Roll the dough to ¼ inch thickness or medium thin. Don't cut it immediately after baking, it will be too soft. Wait for few minutes and then slice, the pieces will come out neat.
• Baking Time - Bake only till the top turns golden brown. If you overbake, inside part may turn dry. Also check if the bread moves freely in the tray - that means it's baked well.
Serving and Storage
Serve garlic bread sticks hot or warm, that's when it taste best. It goes well with soups, pasta or even just plain ketchup. You can also serve it with mayo, cheese dip or garlic sauce if you like.
If you have some leftover, keep it in a airtight container and store in fridge. Before serving, reheat it in oven or on tawa for 2-3 mins to make it soft again. Don't freeze it, as the bread may turn dry and bit chewy after that.

Yes, but the bread will be more dense and slightly chewy. For best texture, use only maida or mix half and half.

Yes, you can skip cheese. But it gives a nice golden top and adds to the taste.
3.What if I don't have oregano?
You can use any mixed herbs or even a pinch of pepper and chili flakes for flavor.
4.How do I know if the bread is baked fully?
The top will turn golden and the bread will move freely in the pan. Tap it lightly - it should sound hollow.
5.Can I make this without oven?
You can try baking it in a kadai or pressure cooker without whistle. But oven gives best results.
