Garlic Bread Sticks Recipe

Garlic Bread Sticks are soft, buttery and full of flavor. They have a crisp top and a soft, airy inside, which makes them so satisfying to bite into. These bread sticks are perfect for soup days or as a tea-time snack. You can also pair them with dips or serve with pasta and salad. I always feel garlic bread is one of those things that make your kitchen smell like a bakery.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup maida
  • ¾ teaspoon instant dry yeast
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ½ cup luke warm water
  • 2 teaspoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon mozarella cheese
  • salt to taste

For the garlic spread

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • 3 big garlic cloves
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, take maida, sugar, salt and yeast - Mix well first. Then add luke warm water.
  • I took ½ cup water and reserved little at the final stage, knead it well to a smooth slightly sticky dough.
  • Finally add olive oil and mix well and keep aside for atleast 1 hour or until the dough doubles in size.
  • Once the dough doubles in size, punch it down and set aside.
  • In a mixer grind garlic to a coarse paste.
  • Melt the butter and take it in a bowl along with garlic paste, oregano and salt in a bowl and mix well, Set aside.
  • Take the dough in the pan you are going to bake, sprinkle little flour.
  • Roll it to ¼ inch thickness. Spread the garlic butter mixture over it. Sprinkle cheese and oregano.
  • Preheat oven at 220 deg C for 10 minutes
  • Bake the dough for 25-30 minutes or until the top becomes golden and crusty. The bread should move freely inside the pan when baked perfectly.
  • Cool down and then cut it into sticks.
  • Serve Garlic Breadsticks hot / warm!

Notes

  • Yeast Activation – Always use lukewarm water only, not hot. If water is too hot means, the yeast will die and it won’t rise at all. If too cold also, it won't activate properly.
  • Dough Texture – Dough should be little sticky and soft only. Don’t make it too tight like chapathi dough, then bread will become hard after baking.
  • Cheese Timing – If you want that gooey cheese pull, add cheese in the last 5 mins of baking. But for a crispy top and salty crust, add cheese before baking fully.
  • Rolling & Cutting – Roll the dough to ¼ inch thickness or medium thin. Don’t cut it immediately after baking, it will be too soft. Wait for few minutes and then slice, the pieces will come out neat.
  • Baking Time – Bake only till the top turns golden brown. If you overbake, inside part may turn dry. Also check if the bread moves freely in the tray – that means it's baked well.
