    Dosa Waffles is a crispy snack made by cooking dosa batter in a waffle maker. This recipe has crunchy outside with soft inside and gives different texture from regular dosa. It is a bit different because the batter is cooked in waffle mould which gives shape and crisp edges. The flavour comes from dosa batter with added spices and onions. It is also a fun way to serve dosa in new style.

    Dosa Waffles is a fusion style recipe where traditional dosa batter is used in waffle maker. Instead of spreading batter on tawa, it is poured into waffle plates and cooked. This gives a different look and texture while keeping the same basic taste. It is easy method and does not need much effort.

    This waffle has texture with crisp outside and soft inside. Dosa batter give slight tang flavor and light softness. Onion and green chilli adds flavor and little spice. Idli podi gives extra taste and makes it more interesting. It gives a good balance of taste and texture in each bite.

    There are few variations you can try in this recipe. You can add vegetables like carrot or capsicum for more taste, also add cheese for kids and adjust spice according to your taste or as per your liking You can also add herbs for more flavor. It also gets ready fast without much work.

    I usually make Dosa Waffles when I have extra batter at home. It is easy to prepare and everyone in home enjoy eating it as snack. This is a very easy Dosa Waffles Recipe that you can try with idli dosa batter and available ingredients in your pantry, no fancy ingredients.

    Dosa Waffles Ingredients

    • Idli Dosa Batter - I used idli dosa batter as base for this recipe. It give soft inside texture and slight tang flavor. You can use fresh or slightly fermented batter.
    • Onion - I added for flavour and slight crunch. It gives mild sweetness after cooking. You can skip if not needed.
    • Green Chillies - I used finely chopped for spice to the waffles. You can reduce or skip for kids.
    • Idli Podi - I added for extra flavor. It give slight spice and good taste. You can just skip if not available.
    • Coriander Leaves - I added for freshness and mild aroma to the waffles. You can skip if not needed.
    • Butter - I used for greasing the waffle maker. It gives slight crispness and flavour. You can use oil or ghee also.

    How to make Dosa Waffles Step by Step

    1. To a mixing bowl add idli dosa batter, if needed you can add little water but it should not be too thin.Get ready with all other ingredients. Add them to the batter.

    2.Mix well. The batter should be pourable but not too runny. Heat the waffles maker as per the instruction on your manual. Grease the waffle maker with butter.

    3.Pour the batter and close it. Cook until the waffles turn golden and the edges are crisp. It may take at least 10-12 minutes, depends on your waffle maker too. Remove the waffles carefully and serve hot with sambar and chutney.

    • Batter consistency - I keep the batter slightly thick but pourable. If it becomes too thin it may not hold the shape properly.
    • Mixing - I mix all the ingredients well in the batter so the flavor spread evenly. This gives good taste in every bite.
    • Greasing - I grease the waffle plates with butter before pouring the batter. This helps avoid sticking and makes it easy to remove.
    • Cooking time - I cook till the edges turn crisp and golden. Each waffle maker may take different time so I keep checking.
    • Variation - You can add vegetables or cheese for different taste. It works well and gives more flavour.

    Yes you can use store bought batter. Make sure it is not too thin.

    This happen if batter is too thin or not cooked enough. Keep batter thick and cook more time.

    4.Can I make without butter?

    You can use oil or ghee instead, it also works well.

    5.Can I make this in advance?

    You can prepare batter earlier but cook fresh. Fresh waffles taste better.
