    Masala Poha is an easy poha spiced with indian masalas and vegetables.Masala Poha Recipe with step by step pictures.

    I usually make the usual poha upma but wanted to try a spicy masala version and that's how this Masala Poha came into picture so tried out immediately for breakfast and enjoyed.

    Masala Poha Recipe

    Masala Poha is a mild spicy and filling dish made by cooking poha with masala powders, tempered onions and veggies. Masala poha could be relished as snack or as a meal for breakfast / dinner. How to make Masala Poha is described in this recipe with step by step pictures.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup poha thick
    • ½ cup mixed vegetables
    • ¼ cup big onion chopped finely
    • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves chopped finely
    • 1 no green chilli slitted
    • salt to taste
    • water as needed

    Spice powders:

    • ⅛ teaspoon turmeric powder
    • ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
    • ½ teaspoon garam masala powder
    • ¼ teaspoon roasted jeera powder

    Instructions

    • Take a cup of poha soak in water for 5 mins. I used red poha, which was thick. Rinse well and drain water and set aside.
    • Heat oil in a pan - add mustard seeds, jeera let it crackle then add slit green chilli.
    • Add onion and saute till transparent, then add cut vegetables,saute for a minute.
    • Then add all the spice powders along with salt.
    • Saute well for 5 mins in low flame, then add ¼ cup water and let it cook.
    • Cook covered for few mins until veggies turn soft but not too mushy.When it still slightly moist add poha.
    • Toss well until the masalas coat well.Add chopped coriander leaves, mix well and switch off.
    • Serve Masala Poha hot with curd!
