About Pineapple Jam
Pineapple Jam is a simple fruit preserve where fresh pineapple is cleaned, chopped, pureed and then cooked with sugar. It slowly thickens into jam consistency which can be stored and used for few weeks. Making jam at home is not very difficult and needs just few ingredients.
This recipe has natural flavor, with slight tang from pineapple and mild sweet. The lemon juice in the end not only balance taste but also help in preserving it for more longer time. If you like chunky texture, you can keep few pineapple bit without puree it fully. Some even add pineapple essence for stronger flavor.
The texture of this jam depends on how long you cook. If cooked longer, it becomes thick and firm, if cooked lesser it stays little soft and spreadable. Both ways are fine depending on how you like to use it. I sometimes make it little loose to spread on bread, and little thick when I want to use as cake filling.
I usually make pineapple jam during summer when pineapples are fresh and juicy. My kids love to spread it on hot toast and it gets over in no time. The kitchen smells so nice when pineapple is cooking, it feels like a small treat in itself.
Making Pineapple Jam at home is very easy, yes with no preservatives, artificial colors and flavors this homemade pineapple jam is full of fruity goodness. Mittu loves pineapple so that was the main reason that I wanted to start trying a jam with this fruit. She loved it so much that she started to eat it as such and it got emptied so soon.

Pineapple Jam Ingredients
- Pineapple cubes - I used fresh ripen pineapple and cut into small cubes. Ripe pineapple gives natural sweetness and good flavor. If you use slightly sour ones then jam may taste more tangy.
- Sugar - I have used this for sweetness and it also helps to preserve the jam. You can reduce sugar if pineapple is very sweet, or increase little if you prefer more sweetness.
- Lemon juice - I add it at the end after cooling. It balances the flavor, gives slight tartness and also increases shelf life.
