    About Chocolate Milkshake

This Chocolate Milkshake can be made with just few ingredients and in 10 minutes, just make the chocolate syrup and blend it with frozen and milk. Usually Chocolate Milkshake is made thick and creamy by the addition of ice cream in it. But I’ve shared this recipe which need no ice cream just the basic ingredients that you have in your kitchen.

Back in 1922 in the US, a store named Wallgreens was selling their popular drink which is a simple concoction of milk, malt powder and chocolate syrup. They wanted to further improve their existing chocolate malt business so Ivar “Pop” Coulson an employee in Walgreens added few scoops of cold ice creams to the drink tada Chocolate Milkshake came into existence.

Though this milk based drink was first popular only in the West slowly has gained popularity throughout the world. No wonder this shake is everyone’s especially kids favorite as it is a blend of chocolaty goodness. Who would say no chocolate?!

Chocolate Milkshake has a lot of variations with or without ice cream, addition of chocolate syrup or malt powder etc. I wanted to recreate the taste of the Classic Chocolate Milkshake with simple, basic ingredients and here it is for you.

    Expert Tips

    • Milk – Boil milk, let it cool down then measure 1 and 1/2 cups milk and freeze it at least for 6 hours or until firm. Always use full cream milk for best results.
    • Cocoa powder – I love when the chocolate flavor is strong and intense so I used 3 tbsp cocoa powder if you like it mild then reduce it to 2 tbsp. Use good quality cocoa powder.
    • Ice cream – Instead of frozen milk you can use 1 cup milk and 3 big scoops chocolate ice cream with 1.5 tbsp of prepared chocolate sauce. If you are using vanilla ice cream then use 3 tbsp of chocolate syrup.
    • Whipped cream – I used frozen whipping cream, whipped it until soft peaks and kept it ready for topping.
    • Vegan – For vegan version replace milk with soya milk or nut milk either almond or cashew milk. Make sure to use chilled milk.
    • Variations – You can add 1/2 teaspoon coffee powder to enhance the chocolate flavor and give a mild coffee flavor to the shake.
    • You can even add 2-3 ice cubes to make it frothy and more chilled. Do not add more as it might make the shake watery.

    Serving & Storage

Serve Chocolate milkshake fresh once it is made with a topping of whipped cream and grated chocolate. I would not recommend storing the milkshake as it is best to consume fresh. However you can chill the shake for 1-2 hours if need be.

    FAQS

1.Do I need ice cream to make milkshakes?

No not all. Ice creams are added to shakes to make it more thick, rich and creamy. But you can achieve almost the consistency by adding frozen milk.

    2.Is vanilla essence mandatory?

Vanilla essence can be skipped but I would recommend adding to enhance the taste of chocolate milkshake.

3.How to make thick and creamy shake?

Adding ice cream or frozen milk makes the shake thick and creamy. Adding ice cubes turns the shake frothy adding more will make it watery.
