Chapati Pizza is a fusion recipe of Indian-style tortillas made into Italian-style pizzas. The only difference it is wheat-based and slightly thinner than the regular base. It is a great way to utilize leftover chapatis. This dish is a quick snack or perfect for a lazy dinner. I created this dish with ingredients available in my veggie box, but feel free to customize it according to your taste.

About Chapati Pizza
Chapati Pizza is a replica of the pizza that we eat at restaurants but creative enough for children to relish veggies and cheese together on a healthy base. It is a healthy, on-the-go dish, and can be packed for lunch boxes and road trips. The colorful veggies, melted cheese, and seasoning just doesn’t add taste to the chapati pizza but it is a visual treat to your eyes.
The Chapati Pizza recipe is simple, creative, and deliciously hard to resist with the cheesy treat. This comfortable fusion is a simple, easy-to-go recipe when your kids ask for something cheesy and fun. This recipe comes in handy when you have leftover chapatis and veggies in your fridge.
All you need is leftover chapatis, some pizza sauce, veggies approved by your kid, and lots of cheese. Add the seasoning and let it cook on hot tawa or microwave it for a minute. Let the cheese melt and over the base. You can serve them as pizza bites or pizza slices. And I am sure they can never figure it out if they are having a chapati pizza.
One evening, a bunch of my daughter’s friends came home, and the only thing they wanted to eat was pizzas. I was not happy with ordering it from the nearby pizza junction, and instead, I suggested a healthier version of pizza.
The condition was it should be restaurant-style. I took up the challenge and grabbed some atta, made thick chapatis, pizza sauces, and veggies like capsicum, corn, and onions. I generously applied pizza sauce that I made quickly, covered the chapati with veggies, and scrapped some cheese over.
The tawa was ready, and the pizza. I gently slid the pizza on the tawa and covered it to cook on low flame. I watched the cheese melt in bubbles, and the base was slowly getting crisp.
Once it was ready, I cut them into wedges and served them hot with ketchup. The demand kept coming in, and I don’t remember how many chapati pizzas I made for the evening. Since that day, chapati pizza has been more like a celebration.

Expert Tips
- Roll the chapati thick – While rolling the chapati, roll it slightly thick. Not too thick nor too thin. Keep the balance.
- Cook on low flame – Cook the chapati in low flame so that the base cooks evenly.
- Avoid overloading – Maintaining the balance is the key to a perfect chapati Pizza. Overloading can lead to moisture absorption and turn soggy.
- Grease the pan lightly – This step is essential as this turns the base crispy and gives a golden touch.
- Grate the cheese – Finely grate the cheese and let it melt on low flame. It adds uniformity and flavor to the pizza.
- Customize sauces – if you don’t have time to make the sauce, you can take some ketchup, add grated garlic, and some seasoning as a quick alternative.
- Use flat tawa – Use a flat surface that ensures even cooking and also makes it easy to remove the pizza once it’s done.
- Customize the toppings – Add some paneer, chicken pieces, or even tofu that can make it filling.
- Pack it for lunch box – You can pack this delicious one-pan chapati pizza for your kid’s lunch box. Wrap it up in butter paper so the moisture does not reach the chapati.
Serving and Storage
You can serve chapati pizza as an appetizer or evening snack for kids and include this on your weekly menu with a warm bowl of soup. Slice them into wedges, and guaranteed, kids will ask for more. You can serve this delicious-looking appetizer with a simple ketchup, chili sauce, and even herbed yogurt for a twist.
Serving chapati pizza fresh and hot is important. Once it cools down, the chapati takes the moisture from the veggies and becomes soft and soggy. However, you can prepare the sauce and keep the veggies ready. Refrigerate them and use them when you are making the pizza. Add cheese and serve hot.
If you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container for 1 day. Reheat on a tawa over low flame.
