    About Lemon Poha

Leamon Poha or Lemon Aval as we call in tamil is a simple stir fried dish made with poha. I always love lemon flavor for its tanginess like lemon rice, lemon sevai etc and now this has been added to the list too. I have already posted a simple aval upma yrs ago, this is a variation of the usual aval upma.

You can use any variety of poha as you wish but I prefer the thick variety as it is less sticky, though tastewise not much of difference. I love the thin variety for aval urundai and aval payasam. When I was puzzled of what to pack last week, this lemon poha came to my rescue and yes I agree posting here was in my mind too.

    Expert Tips

    • While tempering you can add peanuts too.
    • Make sure you switch off and then add lemon juice else there are chances for the upma to become bitter.
    • Instead of green chilies, you can add red chilies too.
    • If you are using the thin variety of poha soak just for 2 minutes else it will become mushy.
    • This upma is ideal for snack time especially for kids.

    Serving and Storage

Lemon Poha tastes great on its own, you can serve it with sev and curd too. This keeps well in fridge for 2 days.

In Maharashtra we use thick variety only to prepare this dish. 'Batata Pohe' is my favorite breakfast.

I love this breakfast dish ! I also do it the Maharashtrian way as well as the "Konkani" way i.e without the dals and the turmeric powder and with coconut gratings for garnish.
