    Mushroom Masala is a spicy, tasty gravy made by cooking mushrooms in an onion, tomato based puree along with powdered spices. Mushroom Masala is a great side for roti, chapathi and rice meal as well. Mushroom Masala is simple to cook and makes the meal special.

    Mushroom Masala Recipe -Chettinad Version. An easy and tasty gravy that goes well with both rice and rotis.I love such gravies to go with rotis  or soft phulkas.Chettinad gravies are about the freshly roast and grind paste along with kalpasi a chettinad spice which lends a great flavour.THis mushroom masala recipe is on my drafts since a year so thought to post it now atleast.

    Mushroom Masala

    Mushroom Masala is a spicy, tasty gravy made by cooking mushrooms in an onion, tomato based puree along with powdered spices. Mushroom Masala is a great side for roti, chapathi and rice meal as well. Mushroom Masala is simple to cook and makes the meal special.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup mushroom
    • 1 medium sized big onion
    • 2 medium sized tomato
    • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
    • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves
    • water as required
    • salt to taste

    To roast and grind:

    • 1 heaped tablespoon coconut
    • 1/2 tablespoon coriadner seeds
    • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
    • 1/2 teaspoon pepper corns
    • 2 nos red chillies
    • 1/4 inch cinnamon
    • 1 no clove
    • 1 no cardamom

    To temper:

    • 2 teaspoon oil
    • 1/4 teaspoon kalpasi
    • 1 tablespoon garlic finely chopped
    • few curry leaves

    Instructions

    • Take all(except coconut)the ingredients listed under 'to roast and grind' in a pan roast for few mins until slightly golden then add coconut.
    • Fry till golden brown. Transfer this to a mixer jar, add little water and grind it to a fine paste. Set aside.
    • Heat oil add kalpasi, curry leaves, garlic and sauté for few mins. T
    • hen add onion and sauté till transparent then add tomatoes.
    • Sauté till mushy, let the raw smell leave. Now add the masala paste.
    • Cook for few mins then add required salt.
    • Cook in low flame until it comes like a thick mass.
    • Take clean mushroom, add red chilli powder, garam masala powder mix well and add it. Mix well. Cook for few mins, it will leave out water.
    • Now add little more water and cook till it becomes like a sauce.
    • Serve Mushroom Masala with rice / roti.

    Notes

    • It is medium spicy, if you prefer you can reduce it as per your preference.
    • The consistency is purely your choice. Add less water and make it a dry curry too.

    Mushroom Masala Recipe Step by Step

    1. Take all(except coconut)the ingredients listed under ‘to roast and grind’ in a pan roast for few mins until slightly golden then add coconut.

    2. Fry till golden brown.Transfer this to a mixer jar,add little water and grind it to a fine paste.Set aside.

    Mushroom masala recipe a quick no grind easy semi dry gravy using mushrooms.I always look for easy gravy versions for those tiring days and this one turned out so good that I made again for posting sake.There is no grinding part in this mushroom masala but still tastes soo good.

    Easy mushroom masala recipe

    Easy mushroom masala recipe using curd

    Ingredients

    • 150 gms mushroom (2 cups roughly chopped)
    • 1 no big onion (finely chopped)
    • 2 medium sized tomatoes (roughly chopped)
    • 2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
    • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
    • 3/4 teaspoon garam masala powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
    • 1/2 cup thick curd
    • salt to taste

    To temper:

    • 1 tablespoon oil
    • 1 teaspoon jeera
    • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
    • a small sprig curry leaves

    Instructions

    • Heat oil in a kadai - I used my black claypot as I love the flavour while cooking in claypots. Add jeera,fennel seeds and curry leaves,let it splutter.Add ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute.
    • Then add onion saute till transparent, then add tomato and saute till mushy.
    • Add all the spice powders along with required salt.Saute for a minute then using a potato masher mash it up.
    • Cook covered for 5mins in low flame.Meanwhile beat curd well with a whisk.
    • Add curd to gravy and let it boil in low flame for 2 mins.Then add cleaned mushroom. No need to add water as mushrooms will leave water.
    • Simmer until mushroom gets cooked, oil will start to float at this stage switch off add coriander leaves.
    • Serve hot with ghee rice or phulka.

      Hi I could not find a mushroom recipe, i think it was called chettinad mushrooms. The recipe says to grind Green Chilli,ginger,garlic. I used to make that regularly, but then stopped making it from nearly 6 months and i totally forgot that recipe. Pls can u provide the link for that recipe on ur website.

      I tried this today and it came out so yummy.
      U have mentioned red chilli powder in the ingredients list. But not used it.
      Please clarify (. I did not use it)
