Packing dinner for hubby to office is a mind puzzling task that’s when I started trying different types of parathas as they are sure to keep well for a long period of time. As cabbage is his favorite vegetable, with no doubt he loved the parathas. I can’t even stand the slightest raw smell of the veggie, but he loves eating raw cabbage. Still I sauteed the cabbage till raw smell leaves just for my sake.

    About Cabbage Paratha

Cabbage Paratha is one of the healthy paratha varieties made easily. Cabbage Paratha is mildly spiced paratha variation made by cooking cabbage and adding it tow heat flour flat rolling and pan toasting it until golden spots appear.

This cabbage paratha is best for kids as it is very mild perfect to pack lunch box too. Serve the paratha hot with raita or your favorite side dish. This is sure a easy way to make kids eat vegetables.

You can make it for snack time too, make small bite sized parathas and serve for kids. Cabbage Paratha is also called as Patta Gobhi ka paratha. In Hindi ‘patta gobhi’ or ‘patta gobi’ means cabbage.

    Cabbage Paratha Ingredients

    • Wheat Flour – Wheat flour or chapati flour is used to make the paratha dough.
    • Cabbage – Sauté cabbage well and add it else the raw smell will be there.
    • Spice powders  – Turmeric powder, Chili powder, Garam masala powders are added to the dough.
    • Coriander leaves – Coriander leaves adds great flavor so do not miss it.
    • Oil – Oil is needed to toast the paratha. You can even use ghee for toasting.

    How to make Cabbage Paratha

1.Heat a pan, add 1/2 teaspoon oil add the cabbage and sauté well until it shrinks and raw smell leaves.

2.Then to a mixing bowl add wheat flour, salt, garam masala powder, chili powder and turmeric powder, coriander leaves, and sautéed cabbage mix well and add water little by little and knead to a soft dough. Leave it aside for 15-30 minutes.

3.Divide the dough into equal portions and then make small lemon sized balls and roll them into slightly thin parathas or as shown below as square parathas.

4.Heat tawa add the rolled parathas add oil, cook on both sides until golden brown spots appear. Serve hot with pickles or curd.

    cabbage paratha making

    Expert Tips

    • Sautéing cabbage is purely optional but I recommend doing it as however finely grated it gives a raw smell when added without sautéing.
    • You can add ghee to cook the parathas for kids. You can also make it stuffed and roll it like we do for aloo parathas. But I prefer this as its mess free.
    • Cabbage will also leave water so be very careful in adding water, so add little by little.
    • You can skip garam masala and also add a teaspoon of sambar powder.
    • Folding and rolling the paratha in square shape makes the paratha very soft.

    Serving and Storage

Cabbage Paratha is great to serve with curd and pickle. You can store the leftover dough for 2 days in fridge. Make parathas when you want to serve and always serve hot for best taste.

i was planning on making cabbage parathas for dinner too! but i make them a little differently – more along the lines of mooli paratha. This is easier though. I don't have to make a stuffing or anything. And thank you for the idea of rolling square parathas. My pre-school daughter will be very excited about her dinner 🙂

I keep trying all the veggies possible to create colorful parathas for my daughter's lunch box and this is one of those. I use raw, grated cabbage though.
Like the envelope shaped rotis, that's what I call them somehow.
