Poori Masala Recipe - Potato Masala for Poori, Dosa

Poori Masala is my fav since childhood days and I remember ordering it everytime we visit hotel Annaporna and now mittu takes after me :) This potato masal can used as stuffing for masala dosa too or can be accompanied with poori.Poori Masala Recipe


Potato Masala Recipe - Ingredients

Serves: 2
Cooking Time: 25 mins


Potato - 3
Onion -1 chopped finely
Tomato - 1 small chopped roughly
Green chillies - 1 chopped finely
Turmeric powder - a generous pinch
Salt - to taste

To temper:

Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Urad Dal / Channa Dal - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Potato Masala for Poori RecipeMethod:
1.Pressure cook potatoes with water until soft. Cool it, peel off the skin and smash it up. Keep aside.Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dal allow it to crackle then add curry leaves and green chillies fry for a minute. Then add onion saute till slightly browned.

2.Then add tomato and saute till tomatoes raw smell leaves. Add 3/4 cup water, turmeric powder, required salrtand allow it to boil...Now add the mashed potatoes and mix well.

3.Add required salt, give a quick stir. Allow it to get nicely blended when it  all comes together as a mass to a semi thick consistency, Garnish with coriander leaves and switch it off.
Potato Masala for Poori Recipe - Step3Your potato masala is ready now. You can pair with pooris or use the masal for masala dosai.

My Notes :
  • If you prefer you can add a tsp of gram flour to make the masal thick.
  • You can also add a tsp of finely chopped ginger while tempering. It not only enhances the flavour it also helps for digestion and gastric issues.
  • You can skip tomato and add veggies like peas, carrot etc.

  2. The same story here.. When I was a kid, I always order poori & masala whenever we went to restaurant. Now my daughter is like that.. Love this masala, it is the perfect side for poori..
