Kambu Murukku is a crispy, savoury snack made by replacing major portion of rice flour with kambu flour in the regular making of Murukku. Kambu Murkku is a delight for people on diet & diabetics to celebrate Diwali & special occasions without missing their favorites.  kambu murukku recipe

Kambu Murukku is a crisp and light murukku made with pearl millet flour. This kambu murukku or Pearl Millet Flour Murukku  is crisp and light and makes a great snack for Diwali.

Kambu flour can be made at home or you can buy in supermarkets as its easily available.I have already tried thinai murukku, ragi murukku etc so this year wanted to try this kambu murukku and it turned our so flavorful and tasty. As its deep fried I wouldn’t say its healthy though it uses millet flour but still a good variation to our regular rice flour murukku.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup kambu flour
    • 1/4 cup rice flour
    • 1/8 cup gram flour / kadalai maavu
    • 1/8 cup fried gram dal flour / pottukadalai maavu
    • 1 tablespoon melted butter
    • 1 teaspoon hot oil
    • 1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds
    • 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder
    • salt to taste

    Instructions

    • To a mixing bowl add all the ingredients and mix well. Crumble and mix well.
    • Now add water little by little and gather to form a soft non-sticky dough.
    • Take your murukku press, fix the plate. I used a flower shape. Grease it with oil and then add the dough in batches.
    • Close it. Press in concentric circles in 2-3 ladles and keep it ready.
    • Heat oil in a kadai - check by dropping a small piece of dough, if it rises up immediately then oil is ready.
    • Gently flip over the ladles, add in batches of 3-4 depends on the size of the kadai.
    • Flip over and cook. Fry till shh sound ceases and they float on top. Remove and set aside. Repeat to finish the dough. Enjoy Kambu Murukku!
