    What is Fusilli Pasta?

Fusilli pasta is a type of pasta that is known for its spiral or twisting shape. The name “fusilli” comes from the Italian word “fuso,” which means spindle or spinning top. This pasta variety is popular for its unique twisting shape, which not only adds visual appeal to dishes but also holds sauces well due to its ridges and twists.

Fusilli can be made from different types of flour, including durum wheat, semolina, or a combination of flours. The shape of the paste traps and holds sauces well making it ideal for making pasta salad or casseroles or red sauce or white sauce pasta or pesto sauce dishes.

Pasta for breakfast is a welcoming change these days. Each month I buy  a small pack of a variety of pasta to try new recipes and also to post here. This pasta is one easy flavorful recipe which needs no pasta sauce and made from scratch.

I have shared 2 fusilli pasta recipes one is a simple pasta with stir fried vegetables and other a saucy version. You can choose the one according to your preference and availability of ingredients in your kitchen.

    Expert Tips

    • You can replace butter with olive oil in the first method. But I would recommend butter for a great rich flavor.
    • You can use 1/4 cup vegetable stock too instead of water while making the sauce.
    • Or You can reserve 1/2 cup pasta cooked water. Use pasta cooked water to thicken the sauce.
    • You can try this recipe with any type of pasta. I had fusilli in hand so used it up here.
    • While grinding the bell pepper and tomatoes you can add 1/2 a teaspoon of olive oil. Also add cashews for a more richer sauce.
    • Adding a mix of more herbs and spices gives great flavor to pasta so do not skip it.

    Serving & Storing Suggestion

    • Serve it as such hot or serve it along with a toasted bread and cheese sprinkled.
    • I would recommend to consume it fresh. In case you want to store, make the sauce separately store in fridge then mix it with pasta while serving.
