    Ingredients

    • 6 to 8 pieces fish
    • 3 tsp red chilli powder
    • 1 tsp coriander powder
    • a generous pinch turmeric powder
    • 1 tsp lemon juice
    • salt to taste
    • oil to fry

    Instructions

    • Clean fish and wash it well. Set aside.
    • In a wide mixing bowl, add red chilli, turmeric, coriander powder, lime juice, cornflour(if you are using) and required salt. Sprinkle little water to make it to a paste consistency.
    • Add the fish to it and mix well. Coat the masala on all sides of the fish and marinate for at least 30mins. Set aside.
    • Heat oil in a pan or dosa tawa and toast the fish until the fish turns golden red in color. You can alternatively deep fry too.
    • Serve Fish Fry hot with lemon wedges and onion rings.

    Notes

    • Adjust spice level according to your taste and preference.
    • You can serve fish with raw onions. I love it with tomato sauce.
    • Squeeze lime while serving if you like the tanginess.
    • You can even add ginger garlic paste as a add on to the marinade.
    • We like fish fries toasted in tawa than the deep fry. Also it avoids fish becoming hard.

Lovely looking fish fry. My all time fav. We add tamarind extract for marination. YUM! Missing this fish a lot, as this is not widely available at my place.

      Dear Sharmi,
My Mother in Law is a goan, she makes fish fry the same way, the only difference is:
      1. Use of Lemon is optional,(we generally do not prefer).
      2. Ginger-garlic paste gives a good flavor.
      3. Coat the marinated fish into plain rawa (take rawa in a bowl and apply on all sides of the marinated fish).
      4. Tawa fry the fishes, tastes yummy…please try this way.
