    About Fish Fry

Fish Fry is made using fish, spice powders, rice flour, lemon juice, salt and oil. First the fish pieces are marinated using the mentioned ingredients and tawa toasted or deep fried. Deep fried fish tastes great but however tawa toasted fish fry also tastes equally good.

This Fish Fry is aromatic, flavorful and tasty that is perfect to go with rice. This fish fry can be made using pomfret fish, seer fish etc. My family loves this with rasam rice the best combination.

Fish Fry is one of the popular order at restaurants. The heat levels are moderate in this recipe, you can alter it according to your taste.

    Fish Fry Ingredients

    • Fish – You can use any fish variety you like. I have used seer fish also called as vanjaram in tamil.
    • Spice powders – Turmeric powder, red chili powder and coriander powder are added.
    • Ginger garlic paste – Ginger garlic paste is added for flavor.
    • Rice flour – Rice flour is added to give a crisp texture to the fry.
    • Salt – Salt is added for taste.
    • Lemon juice – Lemon juice adds a zesty flavor.
    • Oil – Oil for deep frying or tawa toasting the fish.

How to make Fish Fry Step by Step

1.Clean fish and wash it well. Set aside. To a wide mixing bowl, add fish along with red chili, turmeric powder, ginger garlic paste, coriander powder, lemon juice, rice flour and required salt. Sprinkle little water and mix it well. Coat the masala on all sides of the fish and marinate for at least for 30 mins. Set aside.

    Expert Tips

    • Adjust spice level according to your taste and preference.
    • You can serve fish with raw onions. I love it with tomato sauce.
    • Squeeze lemon while serving if you like the tanginess.
    • You can even add ginger garlic paste as a add on to the marinade.
    • We like fish fries toasted in tawa than the deep fry. Also it avoids fish becoming hard.

    Serving and Storage

Fish Fry tastes great with raw onion and lemon wedges. You can marinate the fish pieces and freeze it for about a month. Thaw it, then fry and serve it hot!

      Dear Sharmi,
My Mother in Law is a goan, she makes fish fry the same way, the only difference is:
      1. Use of Lemon is optional,(we generally do not prefer).
      2. Ginger-garlic paste gives a good flavor.
      3. Coat the marinated fish into plain rawa (take rawa in a bowl and apply on all sides of the marinated fish).
      4. Tawa fry the fishes, tastes yummy…please try this way.
