Chilli Cheese Toast is made by toasting bread with layering grated cheese and green chillies. It is a quick snack and which needs 5 minutes of preparation time and 5 minutes of cooking time. With kitchen staples this chilli cheese toast is a must try!

When you are looking for a quick snack to make this is the right choice. Making at home makes it easy to customize to suit our taste. This chilli cheese toast is simple, quick and easy to make yet tastes delicious.

Grilling is the best option for chilli cheese toast. However I have given option to cook in stove top too. Each oven is different and some may have mode as grill but some have just the rod heating option. Grill mode is same as the top rod alone heating up so use according to your oven.

    Chilli Cheese Toast Video

Chilli cheese toast is a popular order at restaurants and cafe shops. Homemade chilli cheese toast is easy to make at home, you can also customize it according to your spice level and liking.

I have shared 2 methods of making chilli cheese toast with oven and without oven as readers and friends keep asking me about making toast without a oven. The spice in the chillies is compensated with cheese. Crispy toast with bubbling cheese and hot chillies – yummm!

    Chilli Cheese Toast Ingredients

    • Bread – You can use white bread or brown bread. You can even use milk bread for a slight sweet taste.
    • Cheese – I have used mozarella cheese which gives the toast a cheesy pull. You can even use a mix of cheese too.
    • Green chillies – Use long thin chilli variety which is best for this.
    • Butter – Use butter to toast the bread.
    • Red chilli flakes – This is purely optional just to give a more zing to the toast.

    • Oven – The oven version is perfect for this as the topping gets slightly browned which tastes so good. Make sure to keep an eye while grilling as each oven is different and it can burn it easily.
    • Stove top – Stove top version is for those who don’t own a oven. This version comes out good too, here the cheese is more goey. The only thing missing in stove top version is the top browning part.

    Expert Tips

    • You can add chopped capsicum or coriander leaves too.
    • Reduce the baking temperature to 190 deg C if your oven is small.
    • If you do not have grill mode, choose bake mode and use oven at highest temperature.
    • I always remove the seeds of the green chillies to make it less spicy but it is purely your preference.
    • Grill mode is nothing but the top rod alone heats up.
    • You can even add thin slices of jalapeno as topping.
    • If making in stove top just toast the bread slightly till crisp in dosa tawa then spread the cheese chilli mixture and place it on the tawa again with cheese side up. Do not flip.Cook till cheese melts and serve hot. The browning of cheese will be missing in the stove stop method but it will still taste good.
    • I used mozzarella cheese, you can even use cheddar cheese or processed cheese too.
    • Use long green chillies as it is less spicy.

    Serving & Storage

Chilli Cheese Toast should be served hot and fresh. I would not recommend storing as it takes just 10 minutes to make it.

I tried toasting bread in an OTG in the toast mode. The toast was very crispy like a rusk instead of being soft in the centre.. in what mode , temperature and time should I toast bread?
