    Brown Sugar Cookies made with butter, brown sugar and wheat flour are slightly crisp and chewy. These can fit into a great tea time snack or for school snack box too. Brown Sugar Cookies Recipe with step by step pictures and video.

    These cookies can be made under 1 hour, above all no waiting or chilling time…how cool is that?!

    Usually we make cookies using white sugar but these brown sugar cookies are no less in taste comparatively so do try and enjoy! Compared to cookies which has complicated steps this is very easy and quick to make. Also these cookies need only ingredients that are easily available in your pantry. These cookies are mildly sweet perfect for snack time especially with tea.

    Generally cookies are made with white flour, white sugar but these brown sugar cookies are great alternate to them. Also they are healthy too. These cookies gets it color and flavour from the brown sugar mainly.

    About Brown Sugar Cookies

    • Butter sugar mix: First cream butter and sugar well until creamy and smooth.
    • Buttermilk: Next add buttermilk and vanilla essence.
    • Flour mix : Sieve flour along with baking soda into it.
    • Shape and Coat: Mix well to form a  dough. Lastly, shape them into small balls flatten then. Arrange in baking tray.
    • Bake : Finally bake the cookies and enjoy.

    How to substitute egg in a cookie recipe

    There are many egg substitutes like namely curd,flaxe seed meal, banana,apple sauce etc.

    1. Curd  : 1/4 cup curd = 1 egg
    2. Flax seed powder  : 1 tablespoons flax seed meal + 3 tablesspoons water = 1 egg
    3. Baking powder  : 1 teaspoon baking powder +  1.5 tablespoon oil + 1.5 tablespoon water = 1 egg
    4. Baking soda  : 1 tablespoon baking soda + 1 tablespoon vinegar = 1 egg
    5. Banana : 1/4 cup mashed banana = 1 egg
    6. Buttermilk : 1/4 cup buttermilk = 1 egg

    These are egg substitutes that works best for cookies.

    Variations

    • If you want skip buttermilk and add an egg.
    • In addition you can nuts or choco chips to the cookie dough.
    • Its not needed to chill the dough however you can make the dough ready well ahead of time for later use.
    • You can replace brown sugar with white sugar.
    • You can use cane sugar too.

    Storage

    These brown sugar cookies after baking keeps well for about a week. But the cookie dough freezes well. You can cling wrap it and and refrigerate it upto 1 month.  Remove, shape and bake them as and when you want.

    Brown Sugar Cookies

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup wheat flour
    • 1/2 cup powdered brown sugar
    • 1/4 cup butter
    • 1/4 cup buttermilk
    • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

    Instructions

    • To begin with first add butter to a mixing bowl.
    • I used crystallized brown sugar so powdered it. Measure after powdering, it should measure 1/2 cup.
    • Next whisk it well. Cream it well.
    • After that add buttermilk to it.
    • Add vanilla essence to it. Mix it well.
    • To a sieve:  add wheat flour, add baking soda to it. Sieve it well.
    • Mix well, gather to form a dough. If it doesn't gather to a dough add little more buttermilk accordingly.
    • Shape into small balls, slightly flatten it. Likewise repeat to finish. In the meantime preheat oven at 180 deg C for 10 mins.
    • After that, place parchment paper on baking tray. Place the prepared cookies. I got around 12 small cookies so added the rest in another batch. Brown sugar cookies are getting ready.
    • Finally bake in preheated oven at 180 deg C for 15-20 mins. Lastly cool them for few mins before storing.
    • Chewy brown sugar cookies ready!

    • For making buttermilk : use 2 tablespoon thick curd along with water(till it reaches 1/4 cup measure), beat it well until smooth.
    • I used brown crystallised sugar. You can use regular cane sugar too.
    • You can use white sugar too however I would prefer using brown ugar which is apt for this recipe.
    • These cookies come under 1 hr category .
      If your cookies are thin then it will get baked very soon. So the timing depends accordingly.
    • Make sure to leave space as the cookies expand slightly otherwise they might stick to each other.
