Black Channa Sundal Recipe – Ingredients
Preparation Time : 10 mins | Cooking Time : 30 mins | Serves : 2

Black Channa – 3/4 cup
Coconut – 2 tbsp grated
Salt – to taste
To roast and grind:
Urad Dhal – 1 tsp
Channa Dal – 1/2 tsp
Red Chillies – 1
To temper:
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Urad Dhal – 1/2 tsp
Red Chillies – 1
Curry Leaves – few
Hing (Perungayam) – a pinch
Method:
- First dry roast the ingredients under ‘roast and grind’ and grind it to a coarse powder.Set aside.
- Soak channa overnight atleast for 8 hours with water. Pressure cook it the next day until soft for atleast 6-8 whistles.Keep aside.In a pan, heat oil add mustard seeds, urad dhal allow it to crackle. Then add hing,curry leaves and red chillies saute for 2mins.Then add the cooked channa and mix.
- When channa becomes fry without any moisture , add dry roasted powder, coconut, required salt and mix well and cook for a minute.Swtich it off.
We usually make pori kadalai and sundal for ayutha pooja.
My Notes:
- You can even add a tsp of coriander leaves for garnishing.
- You can increase the quantity of coconut too.
- Coriander seeds can also be added along with roast and grind powder.
