Ginger Tea is an aromatic soothing concoction of freshly brewed tea with the flavour of ginger. Ginger Tea is a very popular Indian beverage that can be enjoyed with or without milk and can be made in less than 15 minutes. How to make Ginger Tea is explained in this post with detailed instructions & video.

Ginger Tea is also known as Adrak chai or Adrakwali chai is a bliss & rejuvenates you mood and energy. Ginger tea can be had anytime and it is more soothing during winters.

    About Ginger Tea

Generally tea is made with decoction using tea powder and water. In India, we love tea with milk than black tea. In this post, I have made the Ginger tea by making a tea decoction infused with ginger flavour and then simmering it with milk.

I make this Ginger Tea weekly twice and sometimes with variation by adding tulsi, cardamom etc. I am sharing 2 versions of Ginger Tea – one the regular Ginger team and another one flavoured additionally with cardamom.

    Benefits of Ginger Tea

Benefits of Ginger Tea are listed below for your awareness so that we can make ginger tea often.

    • Ginger Tea help fight the flu, common cold, cough and reduce nausea
    • The antioxidant properties of Ginger helps to prevent heart diseases and  symptoms of ageing, reduces inflammation & swelling
    • Ginger Tea speeds up digestion and beneficial for people with chronic stomach discomfort
    • Ginger lowers blood sugar levels and improve various heart disease risk factors
    • Ginger appears to be very effective against menstrual pain along with fenugreek when taken at the beginning of the menstrual period
    • Ginger tea balances cholesterol level and also has protective effects against cancer

How to make Best Ginger Tea?

Brewing the perfect cup of tea comes by experience. During my earlier days I always end up adding more milk or more water, the boil was not enough so on and so forth. But after few trials and learnings got the knack to make perfect tea. Over the years what I have learnt is making the tea decoction perfect and boiling for the right time is the key to making tea perfectly. Therefore stick to the measures and tips given here.

    Ginger Tea Ingredients

    • Ginger: Use fresh ginger for a more flavourful tea. Ginger should be peeled, cut into small pieces and then crushed with mortar and pestle.
    • Cardamom : Crushed cardamom or cardamom powder is used for this recipe
    • Milk: Milk is optional in Ginger Tea based on your preference. If you are using milk, toned regular milk is the best – however full cream milk also could be used. Use same quantity of milk that we had used water to make decoction.

    Notes

    • Use freshly crushed ginger for best flavour. This ginger measure I have given will be fine however you can even increase it if you like more strong ginger flavour.
    • Let ginger infuse well for a more stronger flavour of ginger tea.
    • Add milk only after the tea concotion is boiled well.
    • I have added 1:1 water:milk ratio but feel free to adjust according to your preference.
    • I wanted ginger flavour to be dominant so added cardamom as such. But if you like you can crush cardamom and add it.
    • Use metal fine holed strainer.
