    Ingredients

    • oil to deep fry

    To mix:

    • 1 heaped cup aval(thin poha)
    • 2 tbsp rice flour
    • 1 tbsp curd
    • 1/3 cup onion finely chopped
    • 1 tsp jeera
    • 1/2 tsp ginger finely chopped
    • 1 no green chillies finely chopped
    • 1 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
    • 1 tbsp curry leaves finely chopped
    • 1 tsp red chilli powder
    • salt
    • water as needed

    Instructions

    • Rinse poha well, drain water completely. By now it should have turned soft as I used thin poha. If you use thick poha then soak for few mins then proceed for it to soften. To a mixing bowl add all the ingredients listed under 'to mix'.
    • Mix this well first. Add little water if the mixture is too dry. The mixture should be moist and not too dry. Now make a small lemon sized ball.
    • Flatten it slightly. Repeat to finish.
    • Heat oil add the vadais in batches. Keep flame in medium flame, turn over and fry until golden brown. Repeat to finish. Enjoy Aval Vada!

    Notes

    • Flame should be in medium while frying else it may drink more oil.
    • Also the mixture should be only slightly moist for it to hold together.
    • It should not too tight else it may crumble while frying.
    • I used thin poha so just while rinsing itself it became soft.
    • If you use thick poha you need to soak for few mins.
