Rava upma is my fav and I wouldnt complain at all even if its served daily…I like both wheat and white rava recipes….My fav combo being with sugar or coconut chutney or with sambar…yumm combo! Mittu loves upma with rasam and attimes with curd too.Do you have any interesting combination to share? Amma makes it in pressure cooker and am following the same method too.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup wheat rava
    • 1 onion chopped finely
    • 1 tomato roughly chopped
    • 2 cups water
    • a handful a handful mint leaves optional
    • salt to taste

    To Temper :

    • 2 tsp oil
    • 1 tsp mustard seeds
    • 1/2 tsp urad dal
    • 1 green chillies slitted
    • few curry leaves
    • 1/4 tsp hing

    Instructions

    • Heat oil in a pressure cooker – add the items under ‘to temper’ then add onion saute till golden brown.
    • Then add tomato and saute till it shrinks and raw smell leaves.
    • Then add mint leaves.
    • Saute for a minute then add water and allow it to boil.
    • Add required salt.
    • Once the water starts boiling, add rava and pressure cook for 1 whistle in medium flame.
    • Once pressure releases, just give a quick stir.
    • Serve Wheat Rava Upma hot with ghee-sugar or with any side dish of your choice.

    Notes

    • Pressure cooking method is easy especially for wheat rava.
    • Adding mint leaves is purely optional but does give a nice flavour to the bland upma.
    • You can also temper chana dal instead of urad dal.
    • If you prefer you can add vegetables of your choice to make it more filling and colorful too 🙂

Ghee-sugar is one of my favorites ways of eating this upma. Very nostalgic as it beings me memories of being at my grandma's place. Loved your crisp, neat clicks!

I miss this wheat rava here..When ever am returning from coimbatore, "Mayil" mark rava will be traveling with me! 🙂 Just finished it off and bought a pack here, which tastes like broken wheat!

Nice upma, I never pressure cooked, nor added mint. It takes only a few minutes for the rava to cook, so why using pressure cooker Sharmi?

Upma and banana is our favorite combo! 🙂
