This Ellu Sadam is my favorite. I love sesame seeds in any form either sweet or savory. After reading many health benefits of sesame I never miss them out when I go for my monthly grocery shopping. Bored of the usual variety rice?! try this one for a change and I am sure you will make this often.

    About Ellu Sadam

‘Ellu’ in tamil means sesame seeds so Ellu Sadam translates to Sesame Rice. Ellu sadam or Sesame Rice is a popular South Indian variety rice. Ellu sadam is made usually along with sweet pongal for Thazhigai on Purattasi Saturdays for Lord Venkateswara.

This special rice cooked with sesame seeds is considered holy and served as prasad in temples. It is popularly served as prasad in Lord Shiva temples. Ellu Sadam can be made easily and quickly perfect for busy days when you wan to keep cooking simple.

You can even make the sesame powder and store it for few days though freshly made tastes always best. I usually make the spice mix the previous night and use it for next days lunch or lunchbox.
