    Gopi Matar Curry is easy, quick and simple to make. It pairs up well with rice, roti, pulao, jeera rice etc. I love dry subzis with rotis and this is one of my favorites. Even kids are fond of vegetables with roti so I make it often.

    About Gobi Matar

    ‘Gobi’ in Hindi means cauliflower and Matar is peas so Gobi Matar is basically a dry curry made with cauliflower and peas. You cna more tomato puree to make it semi Gobi Matar Masala or gravy. This Gobi Matar Curry is one of the popular North Indian curries.

    This recipe for Gobi Matar Curry is very simple and comes together quickly so perfect for lunch to pair up with roti / rice. This curry is mildly spiced but packed with flavors so try this easy subzi and enjoy!

    Gobi Matar Ingredients

    • Gobi (Cauliflower) – Choose fresh small cauliflower floret.
    • Matar (Peas) – Choose fresh peas perfect for subjis.
    • Spices – Cinnamon, cloves and fennel seeds are added for tempering.
    • Onion – Onion is chopped finely and sautéed.
    • Tomato – Tomato is blended to a puree and used.
    • Spice powders – Red chili powder, Coriander powder and Garam masala powders are added.
    • Ginger garlic paste – Ginger garlic paste is added for flavor.
    • Coriander leaves – Coriander leaves is added for garnish, adds great flavor.

    How to make Gobi Matar Step by Step

    1.Boil water add gobi first and when its half cooked add peas and cook till both are cooked until soft yet crunchy enough to bite. Drain water and set aside. Heat oil in a pan temper the items mentioned under ‘to temper’, let it splutter.

    2.Then add ginger garlic paste, onions, sauté till it turns slightly browned. Then add tomato puree and cook until the raw smell completely leaves. At this stage add red chili, garam masala, dhania powder, required salt and mix well. Cook till raw smell of tomato leaves.

    3.Add cooked gobi and peas, give a quick stir. Sprinkle little water and allow it to boil – this will be in gravy consistency. Let the veggies absorb the masalas well.

    4.Keep closed for 2 mins and cook until the gravy thickens and becomes semi gravy and the masalas are well blended with the vegetables. Switch off and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

    Serve with any variety rice or even plain rice.

    Expert Tips

    • You can even add a tablespoon of coconut while sautéing onions or even grind it together with tomatoes to get more gravy.
    • You can even pressure cook the veggies, take care not to mush the vegetables. The veggies should be cooked soft yet crunchy enough to bite.
    • This is semi dry curry, but if you want more gravy ad 2-3 tomatoes to make the puree.
    • Chopped tomatoes can also be added instead of puree.

    Serving and Storage

    Gobi Matar Curry can be served with rice, roti etc. This curry keeps well in fridge for 2 days, reheat and serve it.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup cauliflower cut into sized florets
    • 1/3 cup fresh green peas
    • 1 onion finely chopped
    • 1 big tomato pureed use 2 if its small sized
    • 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
    • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
    • 1 and 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
    • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
    • 2 teaspoon coriander leaves chopped finely
    • salt to taste

    To Temper :

    • 1 and 1/2 tablespoon oil / ghee
    • 1/2 inch cinnamon piece
    • 2 cloves
    • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds

      Congrats to Mittu and the proud parents!
      Told you… kids are smart these days but I do agree that the 10 mts decides it all. I am not in favor of the interview process and I believe that the few mts is not enough to judge.
      You should be posting something sweet to celebrate the occasion then.
      Curry looks delicious.I made it for my guests last week and they loved it.
