Gulab jamun mix cake recipe an easy and soft cake made using wheat flour and readymade jamun mix.

gulab jamun mix cake

Eggless gulab jamun mix cake recipe with step by step pictures and video. This is one of the easiest and sofest tea cakes especially any beginner can try. This cake is eggless without maida and oven. I have given both with oven and without oven options too.

Generally jamun mix is used for making gulab jamuns. I bought a pack of it during Diwali and used only 1 and reserved the other one for trying this cake. I have already tried few recipes using jamun mix such as cookies, halwa, kofta gravy etc.

About this recipe:

This recipe calls for easy ingredients that is available in your pantry. Above all, wheat flour added make the cake healthy too.

Dry ingredients : First mix all the dry ingredients like wheat flour, jamun mix, powdered sugar, baking powder, baking soda and cardamom powder. Mix it well.

Wet ingredients: After that add all the wet ingredients like milk and oil. Mix well until no lumps.

Bake : Pour in baking pan and bake.

I have given 2 methods for this recipe:

  1. With oven : This method uses the usual oven method.
  2. Without oven : This is nothing but the traditional method which uses sand for baking in stove top. The stove top version cake also has the same exact texture as the oven ones. The only thing missing is the browning and crust on top which the oven cake has.

Variations to gulab jamun mix cake:

  • You can replace milk with cream for a more richer version.
  • Add chopped nuts like almonds or cashews on top for that extra crunch.
  • For a vegan version replace milk with soya or almond or cashew milk. However remember the jamun mix has milk solids in it.

Serving Suggestion:

You can serve it with tea or just individually. This is more like tea cake and goes well for snacktime or teatime. However this can be had as such and will satisfy your sudden sweet craving. In addition this is a perfect snack for kids snackbox too.

Storage :

Jamun mix cake can be stored in room temperature for 2 days. Refrigerate it to extend shelf life to another 3 days.

Ingredients

Dry ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup gulab jamun mix powder any brand
  • 3/4 cup wheat flour
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder

Wet ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk boiled and cooled
  • 1/4 cup cooking oil any odourless oil

Instructions

  • To begin with : first add all the dry ingredients to a mixing bowl.
  • Mix this well first using a hand whisk.
  • All the dry ingredients mixed up well.
  • After that add milk and oil.
  • Mix gently so that all the dry ingredients is mixed well with wet ingredients. Mixing is an important step as it is one the factors that decides the softness of the cake therefore be gentle while mixing.
  • Fold in gently using a spatula. The batter will be a bit runny.
  • Cake batter ready.
  • Grease the baking tins with oil. I laid butter paper in loaf pans alone. Then pour the batter till 3/4th of the pan.
  • No oven version: Spread sand on the kadai around 3/4 inch thick.
  • Cover it with a lid and heat it in medium flame for 10 mins. This is like preheating the oven.
  • Then place a butter paper on sand or you can even place a stand on it. We need a seperation betweeen sand and the baking tin. Place the tin on the butter paper.
  • After that, cook covered in low medium flame for 30-35 mins.
  • Keep an eye and check after 30mins.Use a tooth pick to check : insert it in the middle of the cake. If it comes out clean then cake is done.
  • The cake will be slightly golden on top.
  • Next for Oven version: Preheat oven at 180 deg C for 10 mins. Bake in preheated oven at 180 deg C for 30-35 mins or until a tooth pick inserted in the center comes out clean. I baked 1 loaf pan and the flower shaped pan in oven and other loaf pan in stove top. Allow the cakes to cool down completely. I usually place the cake tins on a wet cloth soon after removing it from oven for easy demoulding.
  • Finally once the cakes are cooled, run a knife at the sides of the cake tin. Invert to demould, remove butter paper.
  • Slice the cake and enjoy!
  • Soft and yummy cake is ready!
  • Likewise repeat to finish for the other cakes too.

Notes

  • Make sure you mix all the dry ingredients well. You can even sieve it if you want.
  • After the wet ingredients are added do not mix vigorously.
  • Just fold in gently otherwise your cake will become hard.
  • Keep an eye in the timing.
  • It depends on the oven type and also the cake tin you use.
  • I used smaller ones so the oven version got done in 30 mins.
