About How to Bloom Chia Seeds

Chia seeds come from a plant and have been used for long time in different food cultures. These tiny seeds are full of fiber, protein and good fats that your body needs. When you soak them in water they absorb the liquid and become gel-like coating each seed, this is why people like them in drinks.

Chia is the edible seed of Salvia hispanica, a flowering plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae) native to Central America.Chia is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, When you bloom them in water they become jelly like and soft, perfect for adding to smoothies, juice and breakfast bowls.

Taste is basically nothing so you can add them to sweet or savory things without worry. The texture becomes smooth and jelly-like after soaking overnight which many people prefer than eating dry seeds. You can also sprinkle them dry on yogurt if you like the crunch instead.

Some people like to make big batch and keep in fridge for whole week, while some prefer making small amount as they use. Both ways work fine depending on your preference and how much you drink smoothie or juice at home.

I usually keep bloomed chia seeds ready in jar because they are so convenient when you in hurry. Making a batch once or twice a week is good idea.

    Expert Tips

    • Overnight Soak - I always soak chia seeds overnight in fridge because it gives them time to bloom properly. Morning they are ready and perfect texture.
    • Water Amount - Use more water if you want thin juice like consistency or less water if you prefer thick gel. I use one tablespoon seeds to quarter cup water.
    • Mix Well - Stir seeds and water when you first mix so they don't clump at bottom. Quick stir helps them absorb water evenly.
    • Keep in Fridge - Always store in fridge and never leave it at room temperature. I keep mine in glass jar with lid so it stays fresh longer.
    • Check Freshness - Smell them before use, if they smell odd then throw out and make fresh batch. Good batch should smell neutral and not have any weird taste.
    • Use Within Days - I finish mine within two three days because after that they can lose freshness. Make only what you use in few days.

    Serving and Storage

Serve bloomed chia seeds by adding to smoothie, juice, water or any cold drink you like. You can also mix into yogurt or pudding. Store in airtight jar in fridge and they stay fresh for two three days. If you notice strange smell throw them away.

    FAQS

1.Can I use room temperature water?

You can use room temperature but fridge method works better overnight. Cold helps them bloom more evenly.

    2.How long do they last?

I finish mine within two three days and they stay good in fridge for that time. After that better to make fresh batch.

3.Can I add it to hot drink?

Yes you can but they might break down and lose gel texture. Better to add to cold drink where texture stays nice.

    4.Do they have any taste?

Chia seeds basically have no taste so they work in sweet and savory food. They take flavor of whatever you add them to.

5.Can I make them in big batch?

You can try but I find small batch for few days works better. Fresh make keeps them best quality through week.
