This porridge takes some time to prepare as broken wheat needs to be soaked and cooked.I didn’t get the fine broken wheat variety which needs no soaking.But this porridge is not only healthy but filling for babies and keep their little tummy full for long hours.

Broken Wheat Porridge
Ingredients
- 1/8 cup broken wheat
- 1 cup water
- 3 nos almonds
- 5 nos raisins
- 1 tsp ghee
For babies after 1 year:
- 2 tbsp milk boiled
- 2 tsp jaggery syrup
Instructions
- Soak almonds in hot water for 30 mins, then peel of the skin.
- Measure broken wheat and take in a bowl, add water. Rinse it well.
- Soak in water for at least 30mins. Rinse again, drain water.
- In a pressure cooker add broken wheat along with almonds and raisins.
- Add water, pressure cook for 5 whistles in low flame. Let the pressure release by itself. Cool down completely.
- Transfer to mixer jar along with the water and grind to a puree. Broken Wheat Porridge ready! You can feed this for babies below 1 year as such.
For babies after 1 year :
- Take this puree in a sauce pan. Add milk to it. Cook for 2 mins.
- Then add jaggery syrup, ghee cook for a minute and switch off. Broken Wheat Porridge ready!
Notes
- For babies below 1 year, you can feed the porridge as such it tastes mild sweet.
- You can replace raisins with dates too. You can 3 dates for this, deseed and add it along with broken while pressure cooking.
- If you want, you can add 1/2 tsp ghee while serving
- Keep changing the texture as the baby grows. I blended it a bit coarse as gugu likes it that way as he is already crossed the baby mode :).
- You can mix breast milk if the baby is below 1 year. If your baby is used to formula milk then you can add it.If its cows milk then its recommended to add only after the baby turns 1 year.
- I used jaggery syrup as sweetener, you can replace it with palm jaggery or pam sugar candy etc. Or you can also add natural fruit purees like banana apple etc as sweeteners.
