    About Orange Popsicle

Orange Popsicle is a simple two layer ice made using curd and orange juice. First we freeze the curd layer then add orange juice on top. So when you eat, you get creamy taste in the beginning and juicy in the end. It looks nice and tastes good too. No special molds or tools needed for this.

I used thick curd so that the base comes thick and smooth. Also added little orange zest for nice flavor. For the top part I used fresh orange juice and added sugar to it. You can change the sugar level based on how sour or sweet your fruit is. Even curd sometimes taste more sour so adjust and mix well.

You can try this same idea with other fruits also. Like sweet lime, pomegranate or even mango. You can also use flavored yogurt instead of plain curd. But this orange and curd combo is very fresh and summer friendly. It tastes light and not heavy. You can even half freeze the first layer and create marbled effect.

I made this on a hot afternoon. We just wanted something cold and had some oranges and curd in the fridge. I just mixed it up and kept in freezer. My kids loved it. I always wanted to try layered popsicles, googled around and when I saw all those rainbow layers I was so fascinated but knew it was really tough for me to wait and set 4-5 layers for a popsicle so first thought to give a try with 2 layers first and orange, yogurt was my choice.

    Orange Popsicle Ingredients

    • Thick curd - I used curd for the first layer. It makes the popsicle creamy and little sour. Flavored curd also works if you like sweet taste more.
    • Oranges - Pick fresh and sweet oranges. It gives nice juice and fruity flavor. Sour ones won't taste good, so better to taste before using.
    • Sugar - To balance the sour taste. Add more or less based on how sweet your fruit and curd is. Can use honey too.
    • Orange zest - Just a small pinch is enough. Gives good smell and taste. If you don't have, no problem you can skip it.

    Expert Tips

    • Layering - Let the curd layer freeze well before adding orange juice or else it will mix and not look nice.
    • Sweetness - Adjust sugar depending on how sweet the orange is. Taste both layers before freezing.
    • Zest - Don't add too much orange zest. Just a small pinch is enough, or it may taste bitter
    • Paper Cups - You can use paper cups if moulds are not there - Cover with foil and insert stick.
    • Freezing - Keep it at least 8 hours or overnight. Shorter freezing may not give clean pops.
    • Demoulding - Show the mould in running water for few seconds. Then wait and gently pull the stick.

    Serving and Storage

Serve Orange Yogurt Popsicle immediately after removing from mold. Enjoy it as a dessert after lunch or just as a cool snack during hot days. If you made extra, keep the popsicles in the freezer and consume within 2-3 days. Don't refreeze if it melts.

    FAQS

1.Can I use only orange juice without yogurt?

Yes, you can make full orange popsicles too. But adding curd makes it creamy and more tasty.

    2.Can I use store-bought juice?

Yes but fresh juice is better. Store juice may have added sugar or preservatives.

    3.What if I don't have popsicle molds?

Use paper cups. Cover with foil and insert a stick. It works the same.

4.Why is my popsicle not coming out clean?

May be it's not frozen enough or too much juice. Try running in water for few seconds then wait and remove slowly.

5.Can I use other fruits instead of orange?

Yes you can try with mango, grape or even mixed fruits. Just adjust sugar for each one.
