    What is Garlic Milk?

Garlic milk is made by simmering milk with garlic until garlic turns soft and sweetening it with palm sugar candy or sugar. This garlic milk can be a remedy for many health issues.

It is said to lower cholesterol when had before bedtime, can increase your breast milk supply. Garlic is considered to be one of the best for milk supply and given regularly to lactating mothers.

Garlic Milk is a great natural home remedy for various health issues and a perfect drink for lactating mothers. You can have this with or without sweetener but the pungent flavor of garlic will be balanced with sweetener so I always prefer adding sugar.

I used to have this while feeding both the kids. Amma used to give this garlic milk or fry garlic in ghee and give. Either ways its good but giving garlic milk or poondu paal is more beneficiary for lactating mothers as milk is also there.

I love garlic in any form as I love the flavor so have it as such in the drink. But if you like to chew the garlic pieces you can either crush or chop finely and add it. Garlic is a medicinal herb packed with antibacterial properties. Studies have revealed that consuming garlic is good for health.

    Garlic Milk Ingredients

    • Milk – Use farm fresh milk for best taste. You can use packaged milk too.
    • Garlic – Peel the skin and chop or crush the garlic and use it. If using small garlic variety you can add as such or just slice into half and add it.
    • Sweetener – Palm sugar candy (panangkarkandu) is the best option. However you can use white sugar or cane sugar or palm sugar as per your choice.

How to make Garlic Milk Step by Step

1.Peel the skin from garlic. The garlic cloves I used were big so used 4. If you have small variety then use 8.

    Expert Tips

    • You can slice garlic and add , or chop into small pieces and add. Or you can crush garlic using a garlic press and use it.
    • You can even strain the milk and drink it but it is beneficial to eat the cooked garlic pieces too so I do not recommend straining.
    • For kids may be you can strain and feed. Else mash the garlic with milk and feed it.
    • You can have garlic milk in any time of the day.
    • For lactating mother you can give this garlic milk for 3-4 days in a week.
    • Adjust sweetener according to your taste and preference.
    • You can replace palm sugar candy with cane sugar or palm sugar or even white sugar.

    Serving & Storage

Garlic milk is best when served hot. I would not recommend storing garlic milk as it is meant to be had hot and fresh.

    FAQS

1.When is the best time to have garlic milk?

Though garlic milk can be had during any time of the day it is best ti have it during dinner time.

2.Can I give this for kids?

Yes garlic milk can be given for kids and adults. I would recommend giving it for babies after 1 year as it has sweetener in it. If feeding for babies below 3 years strain the garlic and give only the milk.
