Butter Popcorn is an instant snack for evening tea time that could be made at home fresh and does not need popcorn machines. The packed ones available at theatres are not fresh these days and I rely on the home made Butter Popcorn for fresh, buttery and salty snack needs.

    Theatrical Butter Popcorn at home

I was searching for small popcorn tubs to mimic theatre experience at home. However I couldn’t find it so decided to make DIY popcorn tubs. Mittu and I tried this at home, though not perfect, I like it. First tried a trial one with paper then with chart. I am sure making popcorn tubs will relax your mind and engage qualitatively with kids.

Are popcorns and sweet corns same?

No they are not the same – though they belong to the same corn family. Popcorn & Sweet corn are two of six major types of corn, which includes dent corn, flint corn, pod corn and flour corn. Popcorn kernels have strong exterior skinand starchy inside while the other varieties are softer & floury. Butter Popcorn hence eventually had to be made from popcorn and likewise sweet corn & others.

    Butter Popcorn Ingredients

    • Popcorn Kernels: Make sure to buy popcorn kernels and not the regular corn kernels from the store as all the varieties of corn kernels do not pop.
    • Butter: Use fresh, homemade butter if available else you can use the store bought ones. Adjust salt to the popcorn if you are adding salted or unsalted variety of butter.
    • Oil: Use regular cooking oil or olive oil for popcorn- however ensure they do not impact the flavour of the popcorn as oils like groundnut oil will radiate its flavour into the food it is added to.If you like the flavour of coconut oil then use it.
    • Salt : Salt is added as per taste.
