    Soup Recipes for Babies – Let us learn to make soup recipes for babies that are healthy, nutritious and easy to digest. These soup recipes can be started from a very early stage for babies. This post includes soup recipes with step by step pictures for easy understanding and reference.

    Soups are very essential for babies also one of the first liquid foods that you can introduce. It is always recommended to exclusively breastfeed your baby for the first 6 months. If you want to gift something special for your precious baby for lifetime then this is it. In case if you have any medical issues and planning to start weaning from the 4th month then this post will surely help you. This post includes recipes to start from 4 months.

    About Soups for Babies

    Soups are the best liquid foods for babies as they are easily digestible for the little tummies. Your babies will explore more textures of each vegetable, color and flavor. I have not included salt in these soups as its for babies under a year. So if you want to make these soups for toddlers or kids above 1 year then you can include a pinch of salt in the soups for them.

    Remember mothers feed is the best and its always good to exclusively breastfeed babies till 6 months then start with other food. This 4-5 months baby food recipes will help those who are not able to breast feed due to personal / medical conditions. Always consult your pediatrician before introducing any new food.

    Carrot Water / Carrot Soup

    Carrot Water for Babies is a baby food made by pressure cooking carrot, then mashing, and straining the liquid alone which makes the soup. Ideal for babies starting from 4 months.

    Carrot Soup for Babies

    Ingredients

    • 1 small carrot
    • 3/4 cup water

    Method

    1. Wash carrot well. Trim both the edges,peel off the skin and chop into small pieces.

    2. Add water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. You can open cook in a vessel too. Add salt if you are adding.

    3. Once pressure releases,let it cool down a bit, then use a mathu to mash it up well or use a blender, I prefer blender as its easy. You can even use a mixie.

    4. Use a strainer and filter the water alone. Press it nicely with a spoon so that the juice is extracted completely. Discard the pulp.

    Mixed Vegetable Soup

    Mixed Vegetable Soup for Babies is made by pressure cooking vegetables with toor dal and then mashing, straining the liquid which makes the soup. Ideal for babies starting from 4 months.

    Mixed Vegetable Soup for Babies

    Ingredients

    • a small piece beetroot
    • 1 small carrot
    • 2 beans
    • a small piece cabbage
    • 1 floret brocolli
    • 1 tablespoon toor dal
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1 clove garlic
    • 1/4 teaspoon jeera
    • a tiny pinch hing
    • 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder

    Method

    1. Take the broccoli floret and add it to warm water, set aside for few mins. Now rinse the vegetables well, strain the water.

    2. Now add the vegetables to a pressure cooker, add water then add jeera, garlic salt, turmeric powder and hing.

    3. Rinse toor dal well, drain water and add the dal to the pressure cooker. Pressure cook for 3 -4 whistles or until the veggies and dal turns soft and mushy.

    4. Once the pressure releases, let it cool down for a while then pulse it well.

    5. Use a strainer and filter the water alone. Press it nicely with a spoon so that the juice is extracted completely. Discard the pulp. Feed it warm.

    Dal Soup

    Dal Soup for Babies is a baby food made by pressure cooking toor dal, then mashing and straining the liquid alone which makes the soup. It is also called as or lentils soup or paruppu thani. Ideal for babies starting from 4 months.

    Dal Soup for Babies

    Ingredients

    • 2 tablespoon toor dal
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1/4 teaspoon jeera
    • a tiny pinch of hing
    • 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder

    Method

    1. Measure and take toor dal. Rinse it well with water at least 2 times, then drain the water.

    2. Add it to a pressure cooker along with water,hing,jeera.

    3. And turmeric powder.Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles or until the dal turns soft and mushy.Cool down for few mins.

    4. Use a ladle to mash it up well,I used my mathu. Use a strainer and filter the water alone.

    Expert Tips

    • When you first start, start with liquid foods like vegetable filtered soups that helps in easy digestion. You can then move gradually to purees within a week or so.
    • If its not hot, do not heat up the soup directly. Keep it inside boiling water to heat it up.
    • If you are introducing any new food, always consult your doctor before starting.
    • Always give at least 2-3 days before you start with the next new food.
    • You can even replace toor dal with moong dal. If using moong dal roast till nice aroma comes then proceed.
    • The mix of vegetables is purely your choice.
    • You can even use a combination of dals for dal soup. You can use masoor dal too.
    • Rinse the dal and veggies  well before pressure cooking.
    • You can even replace toor dal with mung dal. If using roast till nice aroma comes then proceed.
    • You can even add a small garlic clove while pressure cooking for soup which will aid in digestion.
