Instant pot basmati rice recipe – a perfect method to get soft grain seperated rice in Instant Pot.

Instant pot basmati rice – How to cook basmati rice in Instant Pot.This is the easiest way I could figure out for cooking basmati rice perfectly every time.

I should admit it took me several attempts to get the perfect grain seperated rice in instant pot especially with basmati rice.I first tried cooking the rice by placing a seperate pot inside and then tried cooking rice directly in instant pot. Each time I would want a better version either the rice was undercooked or it was slightly mushy, at times I even ended up with rice looking perfect but not soft to eat.As I have amma and kids who always prefer soft rice I took time to perfect this. And tada now its a breeze to cook basmati rice perfectly every time.

First I tried rice mode and let it to NPR(natural pressure release), adjusted with water but it didn’t work out and I wanted a method where I can manually release it and this works fine both for manual release and natural release.Do try this and let me know how you liked it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  • Measure 1 cup basmati rice.
  • Rinse it well atleast 2-3 times and drain it.
  • Place the instant pot inner pot and add the rinsed rice to it.
  • Measure and add water to it.I use 1(rice):2(water) cups ratio.
  • Mix it once.
  • Close with lid
  • Set to pressure cooker mode in high for 10 mins.
  • Now the instant pot has started. It takes few mins to change from ON to timer and only when then the timer is shown the actual cooking time starts.
  • Once the timer beeps and comes to 0, immediately release pressure manually.Once timer is 0, it automatically goes to keep warm mode.
  • Press the button to manually release pressure immediately after the timer goes to 0.Be careful as the steam will through the holes near so keep your hands at a safe distance.
  • Steam escaping..Can you see the water bubbles?
  • Now the steel button is in down position.Only when the steel button goes down(indicates that pressure is released) its ready to open so keep an eye.
  • Open and the rice is done.
  • Fluff it gently with a fork.
  • Perfectly cooked grain seperated soft rice ready!
  • Spread it on a place, let it cool down then use it for any recipes.

Notes

  • Open the lid only after the steel knob goes down.
  • Always keep your fingers at a safe distance while manually pressure releasing.
  • Its not a must to pressure release manually you can leave it to release naturally too.
