    I had this stuffing idea since a long time as amma makes this stuffed chapathi and was waiting to try this for kozhukattai stuffing too, this year tried it and it was so delicious.do give a try and let me know how you liked it.

    Carrot Beetroot Modak Recipe

    Carrot Beetroot Modak Recipe is a sweet veggie filled Modak made by steaming rice flour molds filled with carrot & beetroot. Carrot Beetroot is liked by kids who do not eat these veggies in curry form. Learn how to make Carrot Beetroot Modak with step by step pictures.

    Ingredients

    For the outer cover:

    • 1/2 cup idiyappam flour
    • water as needed
    • salt to taste

    For the stuffing:

    • 1 + 2 teaspoon ghee
    • 1/4 cup carrot finely chopped
    • 1/4 cup beetroot finely chopped
    • 1/4 heaped cup cane sugar
    • a pinch cardamom powder

    Instructions

    • Add salt to rice flour, mix it. Boil water until it bubbles up add it to rice flour.
    • Mix with a ladle, once it starts to come together, Set aside for few mins until it is warm enough to handle with hand. Now bring everything together to form a smooth dough without any cracks. If you want you can add few drops of oil if it sticks.
    • Heat 1 teaspoon ghee in a pan - add finely chopped/grated carrot and beetroot.
    • Saute till raw smell leaves.Cook covered for 7-10 mins in low flame.
    • Give a quick saute cook until it becomes slightly soft.Now add cane sugar.
    • Cook in low flame, it will become slightly runny after sugar is added.Keep cooking.
    • Once it becomes thick like this,switch off.Grease your palms with oil first.Now take a lemon sized ball and flatten it in your palms, more like a cup shape.
    • Place stuffing on it, bring the edges to the center and seal it to form modak shape. You can do using a mould too.
    • Steam cook for 7-10 mins or until the modaks are cooked, you can see a shiny outer layer, then its perfect to switch off. Healthy Carrot Beetroot Modak snack ready!

    How to make Carrot Beetroot Modak

    5. Give a quick saute cook until it becomes slightly soft.Now add cane sugar.
    6. Cook in low flame, it will become slightly runny after sugar is added,add cardamom powder along with remaining ghee.Mix well.
    7. Cook until its like halwa in consistency.You can even add chopped nuts to this.Now stuffing ready.Grease your palms with oil first.Now take a lemon sized ball and flatten it in your palms, more like a cup shape.
    8. Place stuffing on it, bring the edges to the center and seal it to form modak shape.You can do using a mould too.Check here for detailed video showing how to shape modak.
    9. Steam cook for 7-10 mins or until the modaks are cooked, you can see a shiny outer layer,then its perfect to switch off.

    Serve hot/ warm!
