Masala Sevai Recipe

Masala Sevai is a tasty and filling breakfast made by sautéing sevai with spices, onion and tomato. Masala Sevai is an alternate to the regular sevai and is liked by all. Learn to make Masala Sevai with step by step pictures.

Ingredients

To temper

  • 2 teaspoon oil
  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cloves
  • a sprig curry leaves

Instructions

  • Cook idiyappam and let it cool for some time. Crumble it so that it is separated, Set aside. Heat oil in  a kadai - add the items listed under 'to temper', let it splutter.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste, onions and sauté for 2mins then add tomatoes, mint leaves and sauté till raw smell leaves. Then add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala powders and required salt.
  • Once its well blended add idiyappam and mix well. Finally garnish with coriander leaves and switch off.
  • Serve hot or warm.

Notes

  • Adding spice powders is purely your choice. If you don't want whole spices flavor then temper mustard, jeera and add sambar powder which will give a different flavor.
  • Mint leaves gives a nice twist to this masala idiyappam so don't skip it.
  • Idiyappam dries up fast so serve immediately or within an hour after cooking.
