Sathu Maavu Laddu is a healthy and delicious sweet made with homemade health mix powder, ghee, palm jaggery and cardamom powder. It’s a great way to enjoy sathu maavu in a tastier way, especially for kids who are not fond of porridge. These laddus are soft, mildly sweet, and filled with nutrition. This laddu makes a perfect snack for both kids and adults. Follow the step by step instructions to make Sathu Maavu Laddu.

  • Dry roast sathu maavu for 8-10 minutes until nice aroma comes and color slightly changes, set aside.
  • Scrape palm jaggery.
  • Measure palm jaggery and take it in a pan, add very little water say 2 tablespoon just for the jaggery to immerse well.
  • Heat it up, when it starts to get thick switch off.
  • Strain to impurities. See the consistency should be thick slightly thinner than honey. Cool down the syrup.
  • Take roasted flour in a mixing bowl, add the palm jaggery syrup.
  • Mix well with a ladle. Heat ghee and add it.
  • Now mix well and let it rest until its warm enough for you to handle with your hands. Then shape them into ladoos.
  • Store Sathu Maavu Laddu in an airtight container and enjoy your ladoos.

Notes

  • Roasting – Always roast sathu maavu in low flame until aromatic. Stir it constantly to avoid burning and ensure even roasting. Roasting gives more flavor to ladoos.
  • Jaggery Syrup – Strain the syrup to remove impurities. The syrup should be slightly thick—not watery.
  • Ghee – Heat ghee before adding to the mixture. Start with less and add gradually while mixing, based on the need.
  • Shaping – Let the mixture cool slightly before shaping. Too hot can burn your hands, too cold may not hold shape well. So when it is warm start shaping.
  • Flavor – Add crushed nuts or a pinch of dry ginger powder for a variation. You can skip cardamom if it’s already in your health mix powder.
