Chaas Recipe | Salted Chaas Recipe

Chaas is a simple refreshing drink made with curd and little spices. It is served chilled and quite popular during summer days. The taste is mildly tangy and slightly salty, and it feels very cooling for body. Many people drink this after meals to help digestion and feel light in the stomach.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup thick chilled curd / yogurt
  • teaspoon roasted jeera powder
  • teaspoon black salt
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon coriander leaves chopped
  • salt to taste

To temper:

  • ¼ teaspoon jeera
  • ½ teaspoon oil

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl - add curd. Add jeera powder, salt and black salt.
  • Add ¼ cup water. Temper jeera in few drops of oil.
  • Whisk the curd well. Add chopped coriander leaves.
  • Add tempered jeera and mix well. Serve Chaas chilled!

Notes

  • Curd – I usually use chilled curd so chaas tastes refreshing immediately, you can add few ice cubes while whisking.
  • Whisk – I just whisk curd properly so there are no lumps. Smooth texture makes the drink more pleasant.
  • Roast jeera fresh – I have noticed fresh roasted jeera powder gives better aroma. You can roast and powder small batch and store.
  • Adjust Water – Add water little by little and mix. If you add too much at once it may become too thin.
  • Temper carefully – Heat oil lightly and add jeera, do not burn it. Burnt jeera can give bitter taste to the drink.
