Bread Kheer

Bread Kheer is a quick, easy dessert prepared by grinding toasted bread and simmering it in milk with sugar & ghee. Bread Kheer is flavoured with cardamom and is relished by the family for its taste. How to prepare Bread Kheer is featured in this recipe with step by step pictures and video.

Ingredients

  • 3 slices bread I used sweet bread
  • 1 and 3/4 cups + 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 tablespoon mixed nuts
  • a fat pinch cardamom powder

Use 2 tablespoon extra sugar if you use normal sandwich bread

    Instructions

    • Cut the bread slices into squares. Heat ghee and toast the bread slices.
    • Toast it until crisp and golden brown. Blend it to a coarse mixture and set aside.
    • Boil 1 and 3/4 cups milk. Let it boil, simmer for 2 mins. Then add bread powder and sugar. Mix well. Simmer for 2 mins. Kheer will start getting thick.
    • At this stage add remaining 1/4 cup milk. Cook for 2 mins. Add nuts.
    • Add cardamom powder. Mix well and switch off.
    • Bread Kheer tastes great when served warm or chilled.

    Notes

    • This kheer tends to thicken with time so switch it off accordingly.
    • Do not boil for more time after bread powder is added it will change the consistency and also also spoil the taste.
    • If it gets thick further more then heat little more milk and add it while serving.
    • If you want you can ghee fry the nuts and use it.I used almonds nad pistachios.
