Soft Corn Tortilla Recipe

Corn Tortilla made using just few ingredients that are incredibly soft, pliable and delicious. These are perfect for folding and wrapping your favorite fillings. This method of making corn tortilla is very easy to make even without tortilla press. Learn to make soft corn tortilla with the help of step by step pictures and video.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup maize flour
  • ½ cup flour maida
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • salt to taste
  • warm water as needed

Instructions

  • To a mixing bowl - add 1 cup maize flour, ½ cup maida, 1 teaspoon olive oil and salt to taste.
  • Mix this well first.
  • Add water little by little and start kneading.
  • Knead to a soft dough.
  • Roll into 10 small lemon sized balls and slightly flatten it.
  • Dust flour and roll using rolling pin to a thin tortilla.
  • Cut using a lid. This step is optional, I did this to get even sized tortilla.
  • Cut and ready. Repeat to finish. Collect the scrapes and roll again.
  • See how thin it is.
  • Heat a dosa tawa - place the prepared tortilla on hot tawa.
  • Cook for few seconds then flip over and cook until golden spots appear here and there on both the sides.
  • Repeat to finish.

Notes

  • If you want to make a gluten free corn tortilla then use only maize flour and skip maida. Place the ball in between plastic sheets and press using a plate.
  • If adding only maize flour then add hot water to knead the dough. That way it will be easy to press.
  • Do not over cook the tortilla. Just around 40 seconds for 1st then 35 seconds for 2nd side.
  • Always wrap it in a cloth after cooking them to retain softness.
  • Corn tortilla can be used to make chips, nachos, tacos, enchilada, chilaquiles etc.
  • Always keep the dough covered to avoid it from drying.
