Dosa Waffles Recipe

Dosa Waffles is a crispy snack made by cooking dosa batter in a waffle maker. This recipe has crunchy outside with soft inside and gives different texture from regular dosa. It is a bit different because the batter is cooked in waffle mould which gives shape and crisp edges. The flavour comes from dosa batter with added spices and onions. It is also a fun way to serve dosa in new style.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups idli dosa batter
  • ¼ cup onion chopped
  • 2 nos green chillies finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon idli podi
  • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  • To a mixing bowl add idli dosa batter, if needed you can add little water but it should not be too thin.
  • Get ready with all other ingredients. Add them to the batter. Mix well. The batter should be pourable but not too runny.
  • Heat the waffles maker as per the instruction on your manual. Grease the waffle maker with butter.
  • Pour the batter and close it.
  • Cook until the waffles turn golden and the edges are crisp. It may take at least 10-12mins, depends on your waffle maker too.
  • Remove the waffles carefully and serve Dosa Waffles hot with sambar and chutney.

Notes

  • Batter consistency – I keep the batter slightly thick but pourable. If it becomes too thin it may not hold the shape properly.
  • Mixing – I mix all the ingredients well in the batter so the flavor spread evenly. This gives good taste in every bite.
  • Greasing – I grease the waffle plates with butter before pouring the batter. This helps avoid sticking and makes it easy to remove.
  • Cooking time – I cook till the edges turn crisp and golden. Each waffle maker may take different time so I keep checking.
  • Variation – You can add vegetables or cheese for different taste. It works well and gives more flavour.
