Raisin Water for Babies and Kids

Raisin water is a simple and gentle remedy made with just raisins and water, it helps with digestion and is safe for babies from six months onwards. Natural sweetness from raisins makes water flavourful without adding anything else, and it softens and plumps up after soaking overnight which makes extraction easy.

For babies after 1 year:

  • Press well to extract juice completely. Discard the raisins and feed the juice alone. You can give 1 to 2 teaspoon of juice and gradually increase the quantity.

Notes

  • Rinsing – I always rinse raisins thoroughly under running water before soaking. This removes dust and any impurities, make it safe for babies to consume.
  • Soaking – I prefer soaking overnight as it gives enough time for raisins to plump and soften. Longer soaking make extraction easier and water become richer in flavour.
  • Extraction – I squeeze soaked raisins gently with fingers to release all juice into water. Sometimes I use back of a spoon to press against strainer for maximum extraction.
  • Quantity – Start with just one teaspoon for six month babies and gradually increase as they grow. By one year, babies can take up to two to three teaspoons without issue.
  • Timing – I always give this as first thing in morning when baby tummy is empty. This help it work better and baby absorb nutrients well.
  • Storage – I prepare fresh batch every night instead of storing as it is best when fresh. Refrigerated raisin water stay good for one day if you need to prepare ahead.
