Pumpkin Puree Recipe

Pumpkin Puree is cooked pumpkin that is blended until smooth or mashed. I have shared oven roasted method, steaming method, instant pot and pressure cooker methods to cook pumpkin and make pumpkin puree from scratch. This pumpkin puree is super simple and perfect for recipes for thanks giving. Learn to make pumpkin puree using these easy step by step pictures and video.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams pumpkin

Instructions

  • First take a slice of pumpkin. It is around 500 grams pumpkin.
  • Remove the seeds part, you can wash the pumpkin seeds roast and enjoy it. Then remove the skin from the pumpkin.
  • Chop into medium sized cubes. Rinse it well and pat dry it.
  • Oven Method : Preheat oven at 180 DEG C for 10 minutes. Place a parchment paper on a baking tray and arrange the pieces.
  • Bake in preheated oven at 180 DEG C for 30-35 minutes or until it is soft when a fork is inserted. Cool down completely.
  • Add it to a blender.
  • Blend it to a fine puree. Do not add water while blending.
  • Steaming Method : Boil water in a sauce pan.
  • Now arrange the pumpkin cubes in a steamer basket.
  • Place the steamer basket inside the sauce pan once the water starts to boil.
  • Cook for 10-12 minutes or until it becomes soft.
  • Check by inserting a fork to check, if it is soft then switch off.
  • Remove the steamer basket from the sauce pan and let it cool down.
  • Transfer to a mixer jar.
  • Blend it to a fine or coarse puree according to your preference. You can even mash it a masher if you like chunky pieces. Do not add water while blending.
  • Pumpkin puree is ready!

Notes

  • You can choose any pumpkin variety you get the smaller size the better as it will be juicy and tender.
  • After cooking pumpkin cool down completely before blending.
  • This homemade pumpkin puree can be used in any recipe that calls for canned pumpkin puree.
  • Do not add water while blending.
  • You can either blend it in a mixer or use a masher to mash it to chunky pieces.
  • Oven roasted pumpkin puree gives a intense flavor though it takes time.
