Kollu Podi Recipe | Horse gram Powder Recipe

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup kollu / horsegram
  • 2 tablespoon chana dal
  • 2 kashmiri red chilies
  • 4 small red chilies
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 10 pepper
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 pinch hing
  • ½ teaspoon oil
  • rock salt to taste

Instructions

  • To a pan heat ½ teaspoon oil add ¾ cup horse gram.
  • Roast until golden brown. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • Now add 2 tablespoon chana dal along with 2 kashmiri red chilies, 4 small red chilies.
  • Roast until golden brown, transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • Add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, 10 black pepper, 6 small garlic and a small sprig curry leaves.
  • Roast for few minutes.
  • Add rock salt and a pinch of hing. Give a quick mix and switch off. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • Cool down completely.
  • Transfer to a mixer jar.
  • Grind it to a slightly coarse powder.
  • Kollu podi is ready. Transfer to a plate, cool down and store.
  • Store in a clean dry jar.

Notes

  • Rinse horsegram and let it dry then start the process.
  • Make sure you cool down completely before you grind it.Also after grinding let it cool down before you  store.
  • Keeps well for about 2 months in room temperature itself.
  • I used my dry mixer for grinding at home. If you are making in bulk then you can choose to give it in mill for grinding.
